    Supervises the work of Laboratory Scientists. Uses knowledge and skills of laboratory testing to perform and review work overseen. Ensure the accuracy and timely reporting of test results. Assists Laboratory Scientists with difficult or unusual problems.

    Supervision includes hire recommendations, training, planning and assigning work, performance assessment, coaching and progressive discipline.

    Assists in the overall planning, development, coordination and administration of laboratory services for the Department of Corrections.

    Assists with supply orders and oversee the monthly inventory of the different lab departments.

    Participates in developing budget requests; monitors expenditures according to budget allocations/appropriations and recommends and/or initiates cost saving measures.

    Maintain SOP’s for the laboratory testing, quality control and safety. Monitor adherence to SOP’s by the laboratory staff.

    Prepares and consults on specifications for equipment and materials purchased for use in the laboratory. Assists with contracts for lab equipment and materials.

    Exercises significant independence and initiative in the performance of responsibilities.

    Performs other related work as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Six or more years of professional experience as a medical technologist, medical laboratory technician, or other field relevant to the above listed job functions.

    (Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university, that include earned credit hours in chemistry, physical/biological science, public/business administration, or related field, may substitute for up to four years of the required experience, at a rate of 30 credit hours for one year - a minimum of four years of the listed experience is required)

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Supervisory experience is preferred.

    Some positions are eligible for a shift differential of $173.34 semi-monthly, which is provided to employees with shifts that begin on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am, and who work at a 24/7 worksite (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center), or whose work requires regular visits to these locations. If selected for interview, eligibility may be discussed at that time with the hiring manager.

    The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
