Job Summary Performs supervisory and administrative work overseeing repairs, maintenance actions and operations of a diverse fleet of vehicles and heavy equipment. Must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative in devising work methods necessary to maintain and support fleet operations, including the management of acquisitions, utilization, and retirements of the City of Orlando’s fleet. Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. Directs operations of the Fleet Management division relative to maintenance and repair actions; oversees repair estimates and appraisals in comparison to vehicle/equipment lifecycles; manages procurement & acquisition processes, and oversees the control of on-hand stock, materials, tools, and other related parts; prepares status reports, equipment inventory reports, and other reports as needed or required. Manages, negotiate, and evaluate service contracts ensuring vendor accountability and maximizing operational effectiveness and efficiency. Responsible for establishment of replacement cycles and disposal of a wide variety of automotive, vehicular, emergency, and heavy construction equipment in accordance with all City initiatives associated with sustainability. Participates in a variety of activities requiring travel to include off-site inspections. Provides Division support and oversight of functions with the City’s internal business units as appropriate to include the Emergency Operations Center. Work is performed under the direction of the Fleet Division Manager.
Minimum QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 4 years’ experience in the direct supervision of light to heavy sized vehicles and a maintenance/repair facility (Experience with fleet size of 1000 or more highly desired), within the 4 years must have at least 1 year of experience with alternative fueled vehicles/equipment, zero or low emissions vehicles, and sustainability initiatives or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; Valid Florida Driver's License required. Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM) certification or equivalent (Certified Public Fleet Professional (CPFP) or Certified Equipment Manager (CEM)) is required within 1 year of employment. Sustainable Fleet Certifications are desired.
