Posting Number:36628 Division/ Section: AIRPORT - IAH Reporting Location: 4250 WILL CLAYTON PKWY Workdays & Hours: MONDAY - FRIDAY 6AM-2PM *Subject to change DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Performs emergency management work in the Airports Integrated Coordination Center including coordination with other entities. Acts as the liaison with Houston Police Department in the prevention, preparedness, response, recovery and/or mitigation of intentional and unintentional crises, disasters, other humanitarian emergencies, or of all-hazards, natural and man-made/technological (chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, high explosives).
RESPONSIBILITIES:• Serves as the emergency specialist in the IAH Integrated Coordination Center. Communicate with other agencies as conditions warrant and until the arrival of appropriate management. Must be resourceful and mitigate the effects of aircraft incidents, accidents, bomb threats, fires, hijackings, and other general category situations, including major utility failures, radiological incidents, sabotage, terrorism and natural disasters.
• Under direct supervision of the Airport Emergency Management Program Manager, works to develop, implement, and periodically review emergency management plans in coordination with the Houston Police Department and Houston Airport System.
• Acts as a liaison in partnership with the Houston Police Department in the Integrated Coordination Center and communicates all relatable information to supervisor and other entities as needed.
• Implements emergency management goals through specific tasks including but not limited to maintaining records, compiling documentation, and generating reports or other data products.
• Assists and coordinates citywide preparations and activities in the event of an emergency and assists in the implementation of continuity plans.
• Designs workflows, processes, and various operational plans related to airport safety and security.
• Reviews requests for information and refers requests to the appropriate City department or outside agency.
• Maintains proficiency in job tasks through regular training attendance and participation in emergency preparedness exercises.
• May be required to work additional hours during an emergency situation.
• Performs other job-related duties as required by supervisor.

WORKING CONDITIONS The work environment for this position is primarily an office environment. The office may have occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. The position may involve dealing with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to landside and/or airside chemicals and extensive use of a video display terminal.
Requires the ability to make coordinated gross motor movements in response to changing external stimuli within moderately demanding tolerances or the ability to make coordinated eye/hand movements on a patterned response space within low tolerance demands with no real speed requirements.

recommendations, and/or Internal Affairs complaint history will be reviewed and considered.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Requires an Associate degree in Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Public Safety, Public Health, Criminal Justice, Public Administration or a closely related field OR may substitute for experience.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Five (5) years of experience in Emergency Management, Emergency Response, Public Safety, Public Health, Criminal Justice, or Public Administration.
SUBSTITUTION:Experience as an Airport Emergency Management Specialist may be substituted for the above education requirements on a year-for-year basis.
LICENSE REQUIREMENTS Requires training in emergency management relevant job duties, or ability to obtain within one year of hiring. Knowledgeable with the practices and procedures of the operations of a major airport. Must be certified by the Houston Airport System and have obtained all necessary credentials. Able to conduct special inspections prior to and in response to emergency events.
PREFERENCES- Prior First Responder Experience.
