Job Location: 105 W Capitol Drive, Jefferson City, MO Why you’ll love this position: The construction inspector (rail) will negotiate with railroad engineering personnel to obtain binding agreements and job special provisions with railroads for crossing agreements for the construction and maintenance of highways and structures over railroads; and is responsible for managing rail crossing construction projects and monitoring the state and federal railroad improvement funds through all phases of a rail project from application through construction and final inspection and closeout, to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

What you’ll do: - Administers the grade crossing construction program; ensuring projects are progressing by coordinating railroad interaction, providing technical engineering support and recommendations to department bridge engineers, roadway designers, to minimize railroad impacts and to improve the process of working with railroads.
- Work with Railroads to support the MoDOT Statewide Transportation Improvement Plan (STIP) by coordinating and tailoring contract job special provisions (JSP) for highway projects in which work will be performed on, near, or over railroad right of way and seeks approval of these provisions from railroads.
- May negotiate with railroad engineering personnel to obtain binding agreements with railroads for crossing agreements for the construction and maintenance of highways and structures over railroads. Provides recommendations to district personnel on railroad related projects.
- Review Scope of Work, Preliminary Engineering cost estimates and estimates to ensure appropriate levels of plan review and compare costs against customary and standard rates.
- Maintain and update records, review and process invoices, performs other responsibilities as required or assigned.
All you need for success: Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university curriculum.
- Certification to operate nuclear gauges may be required.
- Successful completion of a work simulation examination and a medical-physical examination.
Special Working Conditions: - Job requires moderate physical activity.
- Job requires exposure to physical hazards, health and safety risks, and/or adverse or otherwise undesirable characteristics in the environment.
- Job may require operation of vehicles to plow snow and spread ice control materials.
