    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under direction of the Statewide Outreach Programs Supervisor, this position performs moderately complex (journey-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Provides supports for all aspects of the Angler Recognition Program, as well as other angler recruitment, retention, and reactivation (R3) initiatives of the Division, including the ShareLunker Program. Provides coordination and customer service for program participants and Inland Fisheries Division staff and is responsive to inquiries from the public and media. Provides planning, coordination, guidance, and participation, for statewide and agency-wide outreach events. Additional duties include assisting with public outreach, education, marketing, and promotion of Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center (TFFC) and program activities. Works with a team to guide, plan, develop, and coordinate efforts to regularly update TFFC exhibit and interpretive content, including the collection and cataloguing of exhibit items. Works and collaborates with other Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) Divisions to carry out assigned outreach programs and achieve division goals. Works under general supervision, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.

    Experience :

    Three years of experience in any combination of program operations and management support, customer support, marketing, promotion, angler education, assisting in public outreach events, and/or development of interpretive exhibits.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid state driver's license.

    ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS :

    Experience :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree may substitute for two years of the required experience.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in fisheries or natural resources related field.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of event planning and management principles;

    Knowledge of sponsorship solicitation strategies;

    Knowledge of safety requirements for outdoor activities and risk management strategies for outreach events;

    Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the program area;

    Knowledge of public administration and management techniques;

    Knowledge of statistical analysis processes;

    Knowledge of budget processes;

    Knowledge of research techniques;

    Knowledge of training and marketing techniques;

    Knowledge of program management processes and techniques;

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication;

    Skill in providing oversight for varied program elements;

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner;

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook;

    Skill in coordinating and conducting large outdoor events;

    Ability to provide guidance to others;

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays;

    Required to work overtime, as necessary;

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions;

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures;

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.;

    Required to travel <40% of the time with the possibility of overnight stays;

    May be required to operate a State vehicle;

    Non-smoking environment in all State buildings and vehicles.
