    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    This position is to be based at the remote DAH Unit of Devils River State Natural Area located at 15166 Private rd. 1500, Del Rio TX 78840, which is located 1 hour (one-way) from Del Rio. Housing is not available at this location. The roads leading to the work location may not be conducive to commuting in sedans, SUV/truck is recommended.

    Under the direction of the Park Superintendent this position performs highly complex (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation and maintenance work and is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment at Devils River State Natural Area. Performs daily routine maintenance and cleaning of facilities and grounds. Operates and maintains various types of equipment including hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors, and trucks. Duties include but are not limited to mowing, trimming, garbage collection, cleaning restrooms and facilities, carpentry, plumbing, mechanical repairs, vehicle maintenance and road repairs. Responsible as the Additional Duty Safety Officer (ADSO) for the SNA Dan A Hughes unit. Assists with enforcing park rules, purchasing supplies and materials and with interpretive programs/special events. Performs administrative duties, prepares reports and provides a high degree of customer service. Coordinates and provides leadership to classified, hourly, and volunteer staff. Responsible for financial management functions regarding field office purchasing. Assists with matters relating to the preservation of natural and cultural resources coordinating with natural area staff, regional resource specialist, and TPWD. Obtaining a CDL maybe a requirement of this position based on SNA needs. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Four years facility, road, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    NOTE : Experience may have occurred concurrently.

    Licensure :

    Must possess a valid State driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a related field.

    Graduation from an accredited Technical school with degree in a related field.

    Experience :

    Six months experience as a supervisor.

    Experience with a wide range of construction, repair, and/or maintenance-related field.

    Experience in vehicle, small engine, and heavy equipment repair.

    Experience in customer service and/or public relations.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, janitorial and making minor repairs to park facilities.

    Knowledge of water well repair, solar and electric.

    Knowledge of park operations and maintenance practices.

    Knowledge of general custodial duties.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in applying worker safety programs to work situations.

    Skill in performing minor repairs to vehicles and other equipment.

    Skill in meeting deadlines.

    Skill in planning, assigning and/or supervising the work of others.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in Heavy Equipment operation and repair.

    Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to effectively train, supervise, and provide leadership to classified and hourly personnel, and park volunteers.

    Ability to prepare and complete required reports.

    Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 100 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to work 40 hours per week with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to work overtime as necessary.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to perform work in rugged remote locations in extreme temperatures.

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 100 lbs.

    May be required to operate a State vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
