    Introduction

    The Planning Technician provides assistance to senior level staff on research and analysis, procedural studies, policy implementation, presentation graphics, customer inquiries, and technical planning.

    Anticipated starting salary may be up to mid-point depending on candidate’s experience and internal equity. The full salary range is listed above and mid-point for this position is $30.13 per hour.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education and Experience
    • Associate’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field from an accredited educational institution.
    • Any equivalent combination of education and/orjob-related experience that meets the minimum qualifications may be substituted.
    Licensing, Certifications, and Other Requirements
    • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the last 39 months prior to start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona. Note: Graduated Driver’s Licenses are considered restricted.
    • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

    Other pertinent licenses and/or certifications may be required of some positions depending on division/department/services assignment

    Essential Functions

    Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:

    All Assignments
    • Reviews documents for clarity, accuracy, and completeness.
    • Schedules, coordinates, attends, and documents board and commission meetings.
    • Serves as staff contact to board/commission members.
    • Responds to complaints, inquiries, and public record requests.
    • Works on formatting, publishing, and distributing reports, charts, manuals, and maps.
    Transportation Assignment
    • Coordinates the collection and review of Bike and Pedestrian data.
    • Acts as a lead on several smaller transportation capital projects.
    • Maintains Transportation Capital Project webpages.
    • Analyzes planning problems with reference to statistical representations, graphic data, site plans, capital project designs, and established operating procedures.
    • Provides support for presentations made to government officials, subject matter experts, and citizens on City planning programs, capital projects and special events.
    • Writes reports on a variety of issues pertaining to transportation.

    • Most work is performed in a City office environment.
    • Lift and carry materials weighing up to 30 pounds with assistance.
    • Operate a variety of standard office equipment including: computer, telephone, calculator, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand, and eye movement.
    • Travel to/from meetings and various locations.
    • Work evenings as required to attend public meetings.
