DescriptionTHE AGENCY: The Health Care Agency is a comprehensive healthcare system serving our diverse community through the Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC), Santa Paula Hospital, 24 primary care clinics, 11 specialty care clinics, Ambulatory Care, the Public Health Department, and the Behavioral Health Department. We aim to provide comprehensive, cost-effective, accessible, and quality health care, especially those facing barriers.
THE POSITION: Under general supervision, the Data Entry Operator III classifies, codes, and enters data in the computer for the billing department for the hospitals and clinics. They are responsible for making adjustments and corrections to reports, assisting with mail sorting and distribution, contributing to the smooth operation of the department. They may also operate peripheral equipment and perform other related duties as required. Data Entry Operator III is the journey level classification in this job series.

We're seeking a dependable individual who is a proactive team player with a keen eye for detail, strong time management skills, and a solid understanding of basic computer operations, general clerical procedures and modern office practices.
The ideal candidate has skills in accurately and efficiently keying data from a variety of sources , along with the ability to identify and correct errors to ensure data integrity. They are flexible and adaptable, capable of managing interruptions and shifting priorities while maintaining focus and accuracy.
WHAT WE OFFER: The County of Ventura offers an attractive compensation and benefits package. Aside from our base salary range, an employee within this position may also be eligible for the following:
- Educational Incentive: An educational incentive of 2.5% for completion of an associate's degree, 3.5% for completion of a bachelor's degree, or 5% for completion of a graduate's degree.
- Bilingual Incentive: Incumbents may be eligible for bilingual incentive depending upon operational need and certification of skill. Proficiency levels by exam are $0.69/hour (Level I), $1.00/hour (Level II), or $1.32/hour (Level III)
- Merit Increases: New employees are eligible for an initial 5% merit increase upon completion of at least 1,040 hours (approximately 6 months) assuming work meets satisfactory standards. Subsequent merit increases will be upon completion of each additional 2,080 hours (approximately one year) from the initial merit increase.
- Deferred Compensation: Eligible to participate in the County's 401(K) Shared Savings Plan and/or the Section 457 Plan. If you participate in the County sponsored 401(K) plan, the County will match a part of your contribution up to 3% of your salary, on a per pay period basis. Following five (5) years of continuous County service, an additional 2% non-elective contribution will be made to the 401(K) plan.
- Health Plans: You are afforded a flexible credit allowance for purchasing medical, dental and/or vision insurance
- Flexible Spending Accounts: Pre-tax benefit towards eligible medical, dental and vision care expenses.
- Pension Plan: Participate in the County's defined benefit pension plan that provides lifetime payments to retirees. Members are "vested" after attaining five years of retirement service credit. If eligible, you may establish reciprocity with other public retirement systems such as CalPERS.
- Holiday: 12 paid days per year which includes a scheduled floating holiday.

Examples Of DutiesDuties may include but are not limited to the following:
- Keys data from a wide variety of source documents into a computer; updates, and/or extracts stored information;
- Codes, verifies, corrects, and classifies alpha and numeric data;
- May file records; sort, collate and batch source documents;
- May use data and/or word processing equipment to produce routine reports, correspondence, and/or forms;
- May train or orient new workers in the unit or department;
- May distribute and assign work;
- May assist supervisor in hiring/disciplining/evaluating others and determining work unit priorities by making suggestions and recommendations; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Typical QualificationsThese are the entrance requirements to the examination process and ensure neither continuance in the process nor placement on an eligible list.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE: Data Entry Operator III: At least two (2) years of experience evaluating and entering data using word processing equipment and demonstrated ability to enter data with speed, accuracy, and minimum supervision.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES: Thorough knowledge of: - basic computer operations;
- specific department/agency terminology;
- general clerical procedures;
- modern office methods and practices;
- techniques to expedite or improve clerical tasks and record/document processing.
Thorough to considerable skills to: - key data from source documents with speed and accuracy.
Thorough abilities to: - extract information;
- identify errors in source documents and return to originator for corrections;
- work with interruptions and shifting priorities;
- accurately read lengthy data columns;
- enter and verify data swiftly and accurately;
- understand, follow and convey written and verbal instructions/directions.
Working Conditions:
Duties are performed primarily in an indoor environment and generally require prolonged sitting.

Candidates must earn a score of seventy percent (70%) or higher to qualify for placement on the eligible list.
Applicants successfully completing the examination process may be placed on an eligible list for a period of one (1) year.
