Accounting and Reporting Director. The position oversees a wide variety of accounting and reporting functions not limited to the following: Accounts Payable, Vendors, Capital Assets, Financial Reporting and Revenue.
Essential Functions:- Manages general accounting functions within the Accounting Operations division of Finance and oversees the Accounts Payable, Revenue and Reporting sections
- Provides solid internal control framework and fiscal integrity for the County through oversight of the County's financial system and general accounting
- Coordinates the preparation and final issued Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) with the Reporting team and supports the Reporting Manager in managing the County’s annual audit process
- Supports and advises Deputy Finance Director, CFO and Departments on complex financial matters and enforces County-wide Financial polices & procedures
- Serves as subject matter expert for the County's Financial System
- Works with County Departments to improve or implement new business process, especially in relation to the Financial System, in accordance with County policy

The Basics (Required Education and Experience) - Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field
- Six years of experience in Accounting, Finance, Budgeting or Grant Management including at least two years of supervisory experience
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) - Five to Ten years of accounting experience, including oversight of accounting staff
- CPA or NCLCGFO
How Will We Know You're 'The One'? - Knowledge and experience with general accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Revenue, Reporting, Capital Assets and Vendors
- Solid knowledge and understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements and NC General Statutes, including the Budget and Fiscal Control Act
- Previous knowledge and experience overseeing or preparing an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR)
- Exceptional critical thinking and analytical abilities, with demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with individuals at all organizational levels
- Proficient in Excel (intermediate/advanced) with knowledge of accounting systems
- Solid leadership skills with proven experience leading a team
