Senior Accountants ensure integrity, accuracy, and control of data and fund expenditures. Work at this level requires working under the guidance of statewide accounting policies and includes uniquely complex issues with many unknowns, and significant risk to the State.
What you’ll do: This position is part of the Cash Management Unit.
• Complete daily federal draw downs and fund reconciliations for multiple federal funds for the Department of Social Services (DSS) and other state agencies that receive federal funds from DSS.
• O n a daily basis deposits funds, ensures deposits are correct of drawn funds, manages letters of credit, analyze s reconciliations for anomalies, and ma kes decisions based on findings.
• A ssist manager in monthly, quarterly, and annually reporting, provides back up for Accountant, Senior Accountant and the Unit Manager, and other duties as assigned.
• This position is needed to assist with and serving as primary and backup to additional and more technical duties in the unit.
• This position is a key part to the Cash Management team as it is often working independently using comprehensive knowledge of accounting systems, principles and practices .
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 4-6 years of relevant experience and/or appropriate certification. (Substitutions may be allowed.)
Preferred Qualifications: - Ability to work well independently and resolve complex problems using a high degree of business management and team building skills.
• Ability to communicate information in a clear, concise and timely manner.
• Ability to collect and analyze fiscal and statistical data and accurately prepare financial reports.
• Ability to evaluate reporting trends and outliers, identify problems, and recommend appropriate action.
• Ability to understand and apply state and federal policies, rules, and procedures of grant reporting and claiming.
• Ability to organize information, manage time and effectively prioritize multiple deadlines.
• Establish and maintain effective professional relationships across all agencies.
• Skill in the use of personal computers, spreadsheets and word processing software and other state and federal reporting systems/programs.
