The Chief Pilot will manage aerial operations for the Mosquito Control Flight program and all related sustainment operations; supervise flight, maintenance, and air support personnel as well as fixed wing aerial support contract personnel; and oversee all mechanical work on helicopters. He/She will perform pilot-in-command duties operating an
MD500D helicopter to conduct aerial inspections and applications within Charleston County and/or other missions as required.
HIRING SALARY RANGE: $76,315 - $99,965 (Dependent on applicant’s qualifications) OPEN UNTIL FILLED - APPLICATION REVIEW BEGINS IMMEDIATELYDuties and ResponsibilitiesThe primary functions of the Chief Pilot are to oversee and direct all aerial operations and personnel as well as perform pilot-in-command duties operating an MD500D helicopter. The chief pilot is responsible for planning, conducting, and assigning all duties associated with Mosquito Control aerial applications and inspection operations as well as servicing, repairing, and maintaining aircraft to ensure flight safety and compliance with FAA regulations. The chief pilot will be responsible for coordinating inspection and treatment activities, scheduling and coordinating aircraft, personnel, equipment and application of products to apply pesticides to chosen areas. The chief pilot must have all the aviation skills and credentials required, to operate an
MD500D helicopter as the
pilot-in-command ; inspecting potential mosquito breeding areas by helicopter; flying with aerial inspectors to inspect dredge disposal and other sites as well as aerial application operations.
Minimum QualificationsPosition requires; FAA
Commercial Pilot’s Certificate with helicopter and instrument rating; current FAA
Second Class Medical Certificate; 3,000 hours total helicopter time; 2,000 hours turbine helicopter time; 1,500 hours pilot-in-command time; 400 hours MD500 series helicopters time; 200 hours aerial application time; valid driver’s license; understanding of industry safety and management systems; excellent communication and supervisory skills. Must obtain South Carolina Non-Commercial Pesticide Applicator and Aerial Applicator license within one year of hire date, unless previously attained.
