SHIFT SCHEDULE: Tuesday-Friday 2:00 P.M. -10:30 P.M. and Saturday 8:00 A.M. - 4:30 P.M.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on traffic signals, pedestrian equipment, street lights and controllers.
- Inspects intersections for proper signal operations; operates specialized computer programs to provide signal timing changes; ensures proper timing is restored.
- Replaces defective equipment, including poles and electrical systems.
- Performs tests on electrical and electronic equipment, including traffic signal heads, pedestrian equipment, street lights, controllers, auxiliary equipment and other systems to ensure safe operations and compatibility.
- Responds to equipment damage and malfunctions; replaces, repairs, modifies or installs equipment.
- Repairs, replaces, modifies or installs circuitry, switches, fuses, timers and cabinet parts.
- Performs electrical system wiring and installation.
- Locates conduit, cables and other underground devices to perform work.
- Prepares daily reports of work activities.
- Paints curbs and stripes lanes as needed to support the division.
- Installs and replaces street signs as needed to support the division.
- May be required to investigate issues related to other divisions as a first responder until the needed division arrives.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Galveston and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Employees may at any time be required to work in order to provide for the safety and well-being of the general public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services, in the event of an emergency.

- Traffic signal and related device equipment maintenance and repair practices and methods.
- Principles and practices of general electronic and electrical maintenance, installation and troubleshooting.
- Electrical and electronic hardware and software systems.
- Luminary street lights.
- International Municipal Signal Association Manual.
- Texas Uniform Traffic Control Devices Manual
- Business and personal computers, and spreadsheet software applications.

- Estimating time, materials and equipment for work assignments.
- Operating motorized vehicles with specialized equipment.

- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:High School diploma or equivalent; AND one year of experience in traffic signal operations; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION: - Signal Technician I certification within one year of employment.
- Possession of a valid Texas Driver’s License.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT:Work is performed primarily in an outdoor work environment. May be exposed to extreme weather conditions. May be required to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
