    What You'll Be Doing

    The Housing Administration and Operations Division is seeking a proactive, detail-oriented, and versatile Student Intern to support ongoing initiatives in business process automation and organizational efficiency. The position will be part of the Business Team which comprises the Department Business Manager, Senior Accountant, and Accountant. The team works closely with the Contracts Team, the Housing Grants Administrator, Senior Administrative Coordinator, and the Research, Data, and Systems Division to operationally support the department’s five programmatic divisions: Homeless and Prevention Services, Permanent Housing and Supportive Services, Equitable Housing & Community Development, Veterans Services.



    •Data & Process Automation
    • Leading and supporting projects to automate recurring processes, including the monthly financial review and invoice workflows
    • Liaising with IT teams to implement system enhancements and streamline communication
    • Updating the Landlord Engagement Unit digital app with landlord information, lease dates, and property insurance data

    •Documentation & Communication
    • Reviewing Federal, State, and internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance
    • Collaborating on drafting written materials and formal documentation for business processes
    • Organization & File Management
    • Organizing digital and physical files in accordance with record retention standards
    • Maintaining effective file management systems to support department needs

    •Engagement & Exploration
    • Participating in team activities and initiatives

    The Wake County Housing Affordability and Community Revitalization Department seeks to improve the quality, affordability, and access to housing for families and communities whose needs are not met by the natural housing market. As the population and economy continue to grow in Wake County, the need for affordable housing development and preservation increases. Not only do more units of affordable housing need to be built, but housing services must also be provided to support families and individuals to access or maintain safe, decent, affordable housing. Affordable housing is also critical to preserving Wake County’s economic competitiveness by offering housing for workers at all income levels, supporting housing stability and economic opportunity for its residents and furthering Wake County’s commitment to healthy and inclusive growth.

    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Strong knowledge of affordable housing issues, land use planning, and socio-economic policy
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including report writing and public presentation
    • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, GIS, statistical software) and policy research method

    Work Schedule: 20-30 hours/week Mon - Fri 8:30 am - 5:15 pm

    Hiring Range: 21.78 -21-78

    Market Range: 11.00 - 23.10
