    Are you an experienced law enforcement professional with a strong investigative background and a commitment to justice? The Larimer County Sheriff's Office is seeking a current Detective or Investigator with at least two years of experience to join our team. This position plays a crucial role in conducting complex investigations, supervising crime scenes, and supporting prosecution efforts through thorough evidence collection and case management.

    As an Investigator, you will work both independently and collaboratively to respond to criminal activity, manage investigative caseloads, conduct interviews, and prepare detailed reports and affidavits. You’ll also provide leadership and mentorship to deputies and staff, ensuring operational excellence and adherence to investigative best practices.

    The written test and writing of a search warrant will be on July 8th . The top 6 scores from the written test will move on to the Investigator Assessment Center which will be held on July 9th . The Assessment Center consists of an oral board, case presentation, and mock interview.

    The starting salary range for this position is $111,613.57 to $118,410.83 depending on experience.

    Responsibilities

    The following statements are illustrative of the duties and responsibilities of the job. The organization retains the right to modify or change the duties and responsibilities of the job at any time.

    Essential Functions
    • Performs all Deputy Certified duties as a Larimer County deputy within assigned area.
    • Responds to and assumes command of the scene of criminal activity as assigned.
    • Provides indirect and direct supervision to assigned deputies, employees, and staff; provides input regarding training and performance of assigned staff.
    • Supervises and assumes responsibility for crime scene investigation activities during case assignment and on an on-call basis.
    • Performs and directs investigative work on assigned cases. Assists other employees with investigations. Reviews and makes investigative determinations on cases.
    • Conducts undercover investigations and surveillance operations.
    • Instructs patrol deputies, jail deputies, recruits, interns, and others on advanced law enforcement methods and investigative techniques. Answers technical questions regarding law enforcement investigations or other areas.
    • Participates in multi-jurisdictional task forces.
    • Contacts and cooperates with other agencies.
    • Prepares reports of arrests made, investigations conducted, unusual incidents observed, or other documentation required as a part of assigned duties.
    • Prepares affidavits for search and arrest warrants and other court orders. Executes warrants and orders, including the coordination and direction of personnel. Serves warrants, court orders, subpoenas, and civil documents.
    • Identifies and manages confidential informants, including drafting contracts and evaluating reliability and effectiveness.
    • Prepares, maintains, and reviews documentation logs, and reports of arrests made, investigations conducted, unusual incidents, emergency situations, or other activities.
    • Responsible for case management; prioritizes the disposition of cases.
    • Interviews victims, complainants, and witnesses, including interviewing small children and other individuals who may be more difficult to interview; interrogates suspects.
    • Gathers and preserves evidence in accordance with governing practices and techniques.
    • Assists the District Attorney's Office during trial preparation and trials. Testifies and presents evidence in court.
    • Coordinates evidence processing with laboratories.
    • Operates the CCIC/NCIC system and other law enforcement databases.

    Nonessential Functions
    • When a local declaration of emergency or disaster is declared by the Board of Commissioners, all Larimer County employees may be required to work as a Disaster Service Worker.
    • Performs other duties as appropriate or necessary for performance of the job.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Must be at least 21 years of age by date of hire.
    • Colorado P.O.S.T. Certification.
    • Current first aid and community CPR certificates.
    • Possession of a valid Driver's License.
    • No criminal convictions as defined by Colorado P.O.S.T.
    • Must be a current Detective or Investigator with at least two (2) years of experience.
