The Division of Behavioral Health is seeking an Accountant for Central Office domiciled in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Responsibilities: - Gather, reconcile, prepare, and process invoices and monthly credit card statements.
- Process payments in SAM II, Missouri Buys and/or MOVERS, if applicable.
- Complete Accounting Distribution Sheet with appropriate coding for invoices that do not require a purchase order.
- Track expenditures and balance accounts for multiple projects within the Division.
- Review, prepare, audit, and process monthly expenditure reports.
- Serve as a liaison with policy staff on monthly expenditure reports and changes to travel policies.
- Assist with specialized payments for Involuntary Civil Commitments which include attorney fees and court costs.
- Backup for allocation and invoice adjustments in CIMOR/CVS?
- Analyze expenditures and assist fiscal staff with necessary tracking and analysis.

- Maintains liaison with state and federal offices on accounting matters. Prepares journal entries to general ledger for the more complex transactions. Gathers, reconciles, and prepares financial data pertaining to budgetary control, state and federal cost reports, personal services, and non-appropriated funds.
- Examines expenditures for propriety and reasonableness. Determines accounts to be charged or credited and may distribute costs.
- Composes correspondence as necessary for areas of responsibility.
- Monitors information and data processing systems as they relate to the balance sheet, income and expenditure reports, billing systems, census, encumbrances, etc. May assist in the preparation of state and federal budgets. Performs other related work as assigned.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance; arrives to work on time, returns from lunch on time and minimizes unscheduled absences.
Key Skills
- Working knowledge of accounting principles and practices and ability to apply them to varied accounting transactions.
• Working knowledge of office methods and procedures. Skill in the use of adding machines and calculators.
• Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting reports and statements of moderate difficulty. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates and other employees. Ability to interpret moderately difficult financial reports.
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree with zero to two years of relevant experience (substitutions may be allowed). (The lack of post-secondary education will not be used as the sole basis denying consideration to any applicant.)
