    Based on qualifications, this vacancy may be filled as either a Plans & Permits Specialist or a Plans & Permits Technician.

    Position Options:
    Plans & Permits Specialist
    Requirements: Associate’s Degree in a related field and 2 years of relevant experience (or equivalent education and experience).
    Market Range: $23.20 - $33.63 per hour (Hiring Range: $23.20 - $28.42 per hour)

    Plans & Permits Technician
    Requirements: High School Diploma or GED and 2 years of experience in the construction industry or customer service (or equivalent education and experience).
    Market Range: $22.48 - $30.51 per hour (Hiring Range: $22.48 - $26.49 per hour)

    Wake County Environmental Services (WCES) is the consolidation of programs and services that include ES Administration, Animal Services, Water Quality, and Solid Waste Services.     The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High school diploma or GED
    • Two years of experience in the construction industry and/or customer service
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Bachelors Degree in related field
    • Experience working in a permitting office and/or call center


    How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

    • Preference will be given to a candidate bilingual in english and spanish
    • Ability to provide excellent customer service to citizens and internal staff members
    • Knowledge of various types of permits
    • Ability to understand site plans, recorded maps and conduct deed research
    • Knowledge of PC functions, and standard MS Office products such as Word, Excel and Powerpoint
    • Ability to communicate well both orally and in writing
    • Ability to prioritize time and tasks to best achieve daily work assignments
    • Ability to work well independently as well in a team environment
    • Ability to adapt to changing work volumes

    Emergency Service Worker Statement

    In the event of an emergency, as determined by the County Manager or designee, participation in preparedness and response operations should be expected.
