Job Summary:
The Irrigation Specialist maintains, repairs, services, and installs campus irrigation systems including appropriate adjustments to the computerized irrigation controllers, and may on occasion perform Groundsworker duties.
Responsibilities
This position is responsible for maintaining and repairing irrigation systems, including valves, pipes, controllers, and related equipment. Duties include adjusting systems as needed, performing emergency repairs, and guiding grounds staff on routine sprinkler maintenance. Light equipment may be used for some tasks.
The role involves servicing and installing automatic and computerized sprinkler controllers, making minor repairs, and establishing preventative maintenance programs. It also includes designing irrigation systems, selecting appropriate products, estimating costs, and installing or modifying systems.
The position reviews landscaped areas to plan new installations or updates, considering plant, soil, and water needs. It also involves programming and scheduling irrigation for special events and coordinating with contractors to ensure systems meet requirements near new buildings.
Additional responsibilities include preparing or updating system plans, ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, and occasionally performing general groundswork. Other related duties may be assigned as needed.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
Two years of experience in the care and maintenance of landscaped areas or general grounds, with one year in the maintenance, repair, or modification of irrigation systems and irrigation equipment.
Required Qualifications:
Thorough knowledge of the soil conditions of the various areas of the campus; climate of the area in which the campus is located; and the mechanical principles of sprinkler equipment. General knowledge of the kinds of sprinkler control devices and irrigation equipment available on the market.
Ability to plan, estimate costs, and install or modify irrigation systems for particular sections of the campus; repair and maintain existing irrigation systems; operate equipment, such as small trench-diggers; provide lead work direction to others; and read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of irrigation repair and maintenance; computerized irrigation controllers; and the use of light equipment like trench-diggers. Understanding of plant-soil-water relationships.
Compensation and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $3,970 monthly.
Classification Salary Range: $3,970 - $6,375 monthly.
The salary offered will take into account internal equity and experience among other factors.

Position Information:
Full-time/Non-Exempt/Probationary
Academic year schedule: Monday through Friday (8:00 am - 5:00 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Summer schedule: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm), some evenings/weekends.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday (6:00 am - 2:30 pm).

Background Check
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
Drivers License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Mandated Reporter
The person holding this position is considered a `mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.
Campus Security Authority
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Cleary Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.
