    DESCRIPTION

    THE CITY OF PLACENTIA IS NOW RECRUITING FOR THE POSITION OF FACILITIES MAINTENANCE WORKER

    4/10 Work Schedule Monday - Thursday, 6:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

    **Rotating schedule for Standby Duty Incentive for after-hours and emergency response**

Our Public Works Department is looking for dedicated and hardworking individuals to join our Maintenance Division as a Facilities Maintenance Worker. The ideal candidate is a skilled professional who can confidently install, maintain, and repair commercial irrigation systems. They possess strong problem-solving skills, technical knowledge, and the ability to effectively communicate with their supervisor, colleagues, and the public.

    Under the direction of the Public Works Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a variety of journey-level tasks in the construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair of city buildings, facilities, irrigation systems and equipment and performs other related duties as assigned.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    The following list of functions, duties, and tasks is typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform other closely related or department-specific functions, duties, and tasks from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
    • Prepares, paints, and repaints walls, doors, ceilings, and other structures; removes graffiti as needed.
    • Installs or repairs carpets and tiles as part of flooring work.
    • Performs basic building construction, plumbing and irrigation maintenance, and carpentry work such as constructing and repairing benches, tables, bleachers, stages, signs, walls, window frames, and doors.
    • Installs, inspects and repairs playground equipment for safety purposes.
    • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical problems; repairs electrical appliances and fixtures at building and field locations; repairs, installs, and maintains equipment such as motors, lighting circuits, timers, clocks, and other power equipment; repairs or replaces ballasts, switches, outlets, breakers, fuses, and wiring.
    • Installs security fencing and gates; repairs locks, handles, and other security mechanisms; fabricates and welds security gates, locks, and chains, as necessary.
    • Maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs heating, refrigeration, and ventilation units; checks and maintains proper water chemical levels in cooling towers.
    • Performs masonry tasks; performs cement, plaster, or brick work.
    • Estimates and requisitions materials and supplies for assigned projects; orders equipment needed and maintains work records.
    OTHER DUTIES:
    • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit and the City.


    TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of training, education, and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
    Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and three years of journey-level experience in the general building trades; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Additional training and vocational certification in the building trades is desirable.

    Schedule- The City operates on a "4/10" work schedule.

    Retirement - The City of Placentia participates in the California Public Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS) and does not participate in Social Security.
    • 2% @ 60 defined retirement plan (Classic Members) - Applies to employees who, prior to January 1, 2013, were active members of CalPERS or another public employee retirement system through which reciprocity may be established. Employee membership contribution is 7%.
    • 2% @ 62 defined retirement plan (New Members/PEPRA) - Applies to new employees hired on or after January 1, 2013, who are not members of CalPERS or are not members of another public employee retirement system with which reciprocity may be established. Employee membership contribution is 6.75%.

    Bilingual Pay- An additional pay of $175 per month

    Health Insurance - Up to $1,877 per month for family coverage to purchase health insurance through the CalPERS Health Benefits program. Medical opt out also available.

    Dental & Vision Insurance - Fully paid plan for dental and vision insurance.

    Life Insurance - Fully paid life insurance policy equal to employee's annual salary. Additional life insurance is available for purchase.

    Disability Insurance - Fully paid premiums for short-term and long-term disability insurance.

    Flexible Spending Account - Employees may voluntarily contribute to a Section 125 Flexible Spending Account.

    Deferred Compensation - Employees may voluntarily contribute to a deferred compensation plan.

    Paid Time Off (Vacation) - Accrual rate of 80 hours per year. 80 hours per year; 120 hours after 3 years of service.

    Alternative Health & Wellness (Sick Leave) - 96 hours per year; this program includes a cash incentive of up to $1,250 per fiscal year.

    Holidays - 13 paid holidays per year. In addition, subject to City Council approval, City Hall and most City Services observe a Holiday Closure annually for two weeks at the end of December/beginning of January, including Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day (paid time off varies per year, assignment and Bargaining Unit; City will provide additional holiday hours during this closure period.
