Research and Development Intern

Position Description

Tacoma Power is looking to hire an intern to join our Energy Research and Development team. This position is open to current college students and recent graduates and offers hands-on experience with supporting innovative energy projects and customer programs. This paid internship is an entry-level position.

The ideal candidate has an aptitude for both quantitative and qualitative research, is an enthusiastic and confident communicator, and seeks opportunities to become proficient in researching new technologies, data management, report writing, and creating media content.

This is not a normal internship! You will be a crucial member of a small team with important responsibilities and deliverables of your own. We hope you will leave our internship program with new knowledge and experience in clean energy programs, transportation electrification, community engagement and environmental stewardship.

The expected duration of the internship is one year with 40 hours of work per week. Tacoma Power is an equal opportunity employer that values diversity.

Qualifications

Minimum Education*
High School Diploma or GED

Minimum Experience*
1 year of post-high school training

*Equivalency: 1 year of experience = 1 year of education

Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
Depending on assignment, some positions may require a valid Washington State Driver's License

Knowledge & Skills

• Ability to research, read and summarize information from articles, research studies, and presentations
• Creative, curious, and confident
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Experience or interest in grant writing and grant management
• Aptitude for project management

Other Employment Information

Direct Deposit: Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule by direct deposit.

Salary Increases: Based on satisfactory job performance, the City provides for a regular progression of salary increases for most classifications according to the salary schedule.

Union Affiliation: Many job classifications are covered by union security provisions which require union membership, dues, or payment of equivalent service fees.
