    Health, Safety, and Environmental Coordinator

    Summary:
    Duluth Public Schools is seeking an Individual that direct plans and promotes the District's occupational safety and health programs, environmental health programs, hazardous waste programs, motor vehicle accident prevention, personal injury and prevention programs for the purpose of lowering the District's loss profile for general liability and property loss areas. Administers workers' compensation programs, injured employee case management and early return to work programs.

    Minimum Qualifications:
    • Requires a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety, Health and Environment
    • Or a closely-related field with three years of experience as a coordinator of health, safety and environmental programs in a medium-to-large public or private organization; or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience necessary to meet the minimum degree requirement.
    • Master of Science in Industrial Safety/Industrial Hygiene will be considered too equal to 3 years minimum experience.
    Knowledge Requirements:
    • Federal and State OSHA standards, as well as the environmental and waste handling laws of the Environmental Protection Agency and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency.
    • Minnesota statutes on above-ground and below-ground fuel storage tanks.
    • Minnesota Department of Transportation regulations regarding drug testing and vehicle inspections.
    • Minnesota workers' compensation laws.
    • Life safety codes.
    • Minnesota food codes.
    • Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act.
    • Minnesota Department of Health statutes regarding drinking water.
    Skill Requirements:
    • Verbal and written communications.
    • Personal computer software applications, such as Excel, MS-Word, performing and or coordinating data entry for related data management and training programs.
    • Accident investigating and interviewing.
    • Operating a sound-level meter.
    • Operating a digital camera.
    • Operating an air sampling pump, including calibrating to specifications to test for exposure and contaminants.
    • Operating a noise dosimeter in order to determine employee exposure to noise.
    • Determine the flow rate, such as static and velocity pressure, by using a manometer.
    • Measuring airflow through a hood with a velometer.
    • Using a pump and indicator tubes for sampling of contaminants.
    • Operating a 3-in-1 monitor to test for oxygen, carbon monoxide, or an explosive atmosphere.
    • Using a sling psycho meter to determine the wetbulb or drybulb temperature.

    • Family Coverage - District pays 75% of premium (25% employee contribution) + contributes $5,225.00 into HRA annually

    • Single Coverage - District pays 100% of Basic premium (FREE)
    • Family Coverage - District pays 25% of Premium
    Life Insurance
    • District provides minimum of $50,000 of life insurance at no cost, employee may purchase supplemental life insurance
    Long Term Disability
    • District-provided at no cost to employee
    Flexible Spending Accounts
    • Employees may elect to contribute on a pre-tax basis to Health Flexible Spending Accounts and Dependent Care Accounts
    Retirement
    • The District contributes 7.5% of your total salary in the Public Employees Retirement Association) pension plan.
    • Employees may also elect to participate in Tax-Shelter Annuity options.
    Time Off
    • Each bargaining unit contract defines time off provisions such as holidays, sick/personal leave, vacation, etc.
