    Student Technician I

    1 Position to be filled

    Part-Time Position

    Bryan, Texas - RELLIS Campus

    $14.74/Hourly

    The Student Technician will perform grounds maintenance to include push mowing, string trimming, brush clearing, and trash pick-up. This position will also assist full-time employees with assigned maintenance/construction tasks including but not limited to carpentry, painting, and class/event set up and tear down. The Student Technician may be required to assist other programs with facilities/class operations.

    This position reports to the Training Support Foreman II.

    Required Qualifications:
    • High School Diploma or GED, and current enrollment in a degree granting program at an accredited college or university.


    Required Licenses/Certifications:
    • Must have a valid motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • One or more years of related work experience.


    Physical Requirements:
    • Physical conditioning consistent with movement/lifting up to 75 lbs. of equipment using assisted-lift equipment, standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending/stooping, kneeling/squatting, reaching, talking, hearing, lifting, carrying, pushing/pulling.
    • Ability to work outdoors exposed to various weather conditions year-round, potential allergens, and elevated noise levels.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving an automobile and/or state vehicle.
    • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.


    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Must be able to safely operate a Industrial Mowers, and various types of vehicles. Training will be provided prior to the operation of equipment.
    • Must be mechanically inclined.
    • Ability to follow instructions and communicate in English to perform job responsibilities.
    • Ability to interact positively with students, vendors and staff.
    • Excellent organizational skills.
    • Working knowledge of lawn equipment or the ability to learn how to work lawn equipment.


    Equipment:
    • Standard office equipment: computer, keyboard, multifunctional printer, telephone.
    • Heavy equipment such as industrial mowers.
    • String trimmers, push mowers, pickup trucks, and utility task vehicles (UTV).
    • Power equipment such as drills, saws (table, circular, miter, saws all, chain saws and chop saws).
    • Pressure washer and other vehicle cleaning equipment.
    • Occasional use of agency vehicles.


    Notifications:
    • This position is security sensitive.
    • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TEEX regulations and procedures.
    • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and Agency safety requirements.
    • This position may require work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends.
    • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving a personal or TEEX vehicle.
    • This is a wage position established to accommodate a temporary organizational need. As such, TEEX does not guarantee any set number of hours or length of employment in this role.
    • Must be able to work a minimum of 12 hours a week with reliable transportation.
    • This position requires up to 5% travel.


    Essential Duties, Tasks, and Percentages:

    Lawn Care - 55%
    • Performs grounds maintenance such as mowing (push and zero turn), edging, leaf blowing.
    • Picks-up trash at and around training projects, shelters, buildings, roadways and lunchrooms
    • Applies herbicide as required.


    Facility Maintenance/Construction - 20%
    • Assists full-time employees with the maintenance and or construction of training projects.


    Class/Event Support - 10%
    • Assists with the preparation and clean-up of classes.
    • Prepares for training by delivering and placing training equipment and materials, setting up of classrooms and lunch areas, assists with the restoration of training areas by securing the equipment in designated storage areas.
    • Prepares for events by assisting with set up and tear down (moving chairs and tables, etc.).
    • Assists other programs with facilities/class operations.


    Tool/Equipment Operation - 10%
    • Use the appropriate tools/equipment to perform assigned tasks.


    Supply Acquisition/Vehicle Repair - 5%
    • Pick up materials, supplies and equipment from local vendors.
    • Deliver and pick up vehicles from repair shops.
    • Perform minor repairs to TEEX owned vehicles.


    Other Duties:
    • Complies with work schedule provided, maintains a set work schedule and reports to work and duty assignments on time per the class schedule provided.
    • Maintains a clean and neat appearance.
    • Shows safety awareness and demonstrate safe working habits/practices.
    • Ensures that buildings and property are secured when unattended.
    • Takes all appropriate measures to prevent loss, theft, or damage to any TEEX property.
    • Immediately reports any loss, theft, or damage to TEEX property to any supervisor.
    • Attends scheduled safety meetings.
    • Completes all the training required.
    • Wears Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and specified uniforms as required.
    • Performs additional work duties as assigned.
    • Provide school schedule to supervisor when requested.
