Under general supervision of the Fleet Superintendent, performs duties including ordering, receiving and storing supplies, materials and equipment; inputs requisitions and maintains computerized inventory and related records; maintains the warehouse and storage areas in an orderly manner and ensures that all inventory items are properly labeled while applying all standard safety practices; maintains forklift certification and operates both electric and gas forklifts used within the warehouse.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Performs purchasing functions in accordance with daily replenishment requirements for City Stores; purchases equipment, materials and supplies according to City Store policies.
Develops and maintains a professional business rapport with vendors. Obtains competitive quotes by telephone or email; analyzes quotes to determine lowest price and best availability; consolidates purchases whenever possible to maximize benefits of large volume purchases.
Maintains computerized inventory records on a daily basis; inputs requisitions as needed.
Maintains ongoing physical inventory of warehouse stock.
Receives and accepts delivery of supplies, tools, materials, and equipment; inspects received items for damage; verifies items and quantities received between orders, packing slips and invoices; maintains records of all warehouse stock ordered and received.
Ensures proper storage of received items and rotates stock; stores items in accordance with established storage system, and maintains records of items received.
Picks up, inventories, stores and disposes of surplus City property. Maintains all records of surplus property and works with auction companies to dispose of surplus property.
Works with other City staff and vendors to resolve various issues and problems such as stocking new items, damaged products and handling returns.
Operates various office equipment in the course of duties such as a personal computer, fax machine, copier, and adding machine.
Operates delivery truck, forklift, electric lift or other light motor vehicle to pick up, deliver, or move parts or supplies.
Assists with annual physical inventory of warehouse stock.
Performs related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS

Prepare and maintain a variety of purchasing, inventory, and warehouse records.

Plan and organize work load to meet changing priorities and deadlines.
Maintain a clean, organized and efficient warehouse.
Physically and safely lift 100 lbs.
Operate and use various warehouse equipment including, but not limited to a forklift and electric lift.
Operate and use various office equipment including a personal computer, fax machine, copier, printer, and adding machine.
Possess excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with outside vendors, as well as City workforce
Establish and maintain effective working relationship with others and contribute to a successful team effort.
Show awareness and respect for the diversity of the City workforce and community.
Minimum RequirementsEducation/Training: Graduation from high school or equivalent.
Experience: Three years (full-time equivalent) experience in purchasing and materials handling or systemized storekeeping.
License or Certificate: Must possess and maintain a valid Class C California driver's license or the ability to provide transportation. Must be able to obtain a forklift certification within three (3) months of employment.

SELECTION PROCEDUREApplications will be screened and the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear for testing. All positions require the ability to read, write and speak English. Types of tests may include written and/or oral examination, physical agility, practical exam or other appropriate job-related selection process. When testing is completed, candidates will be ranked on an eligibility list in the order of their test score. Selection for appointments is made from names certified on the eligibility list.
All appointments are subject to the successful completion of background investigation including LIVESCAN fingerprinting, and will be required to submit verification of the legal right to work in the United States. Qualification by a medical examination will be required at the time of appointment. After appointment, classified employees must satisfactorily complete a probationary period to be eligible for regular status.
