    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION :

    Under the direction of Park Management and Lead Maintenance Specialist, this position performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. Responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of all wastewater utility collection and water distribution systems for Brazos Bend State Park. Ensures regulatory compliance in all utility operations and completion of required reports and laboratory testing as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Performs all phases of maintenance and repairs to other park facilities, equipment, grounds, and electrical and plumbing systems utilizing equipment such as hand tools, power tools, mowers, tractors and other machinery. Responds to emergency calls for assistance. May supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Education :

    Graduation from High School or GED.

    Experience :

    Four years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.

    Licensure :

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid State driver's license.

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a class "D" Groundwater and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

    Must possess or be able to obtain, within three years of employment, a class "C" Groundwater and Wastewater license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

    NOTE : Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required driving and TCEQ licenses and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TECQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS :

    Experience :

    Experience working with the public.

    Experience in implementing workplace safety programs.

    Experience in facility or utility electrical system repair.

    Experience working with water or wastewater systems.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES :

    Knowledge of TCEQ rules and regulations on wastewater collection and water distribution systems.

    Knowledge of public water and wastewater systems.

    Knowledge of wastewater and water testing and analysis procedures and associated reporting requirements and procedures.

    Knowledge of facility, equipment and ground maintenance.

    Knowledge of standard workplace safety practices and regulations.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in basic report writing and developing and maintaining records.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.

    Skill in planning, assigning and/or supervising the work of others.

    Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment.

    Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.

    Ability to perform minor repairs to collection and distribution systems.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

    Ability to perform manual labor including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS :

    Required to work in a public park with overnight camping and day use.

    Required to work 40 hours per week, includes flexible schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays and holidays.

    Required to perform work outdoors, occasionally in adverse weather conditions.

    Required to respond to emergencies and on-call situations.

    Required to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.

    Required to operate a State vehicle.

    Required to travel 10% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
