THE POSITION:
The Wastewater Treatment Superintendent serves as the Chief Plant Operator for the Laguna Treatment Plant, as required by State regulations, and manages compliance with state discharge regulations. In this capacity, the Wastewater Superintendent plans, coordinates, supervises, and reviews the activities involved in the operation and preventive maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant.

THE SELECTION PROCESS:
The selection process will include a minimum qualifications assessment, and may also include an application and supplemental questionnaire review, followed by department selection interviews.
Essential Duties:
Knowledge of: Operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plant facilities; control strategies and operating parameters of wastewater treatment processes; operational requirements of plant machinery; relevant federal, state and local laws, regulations, and policies; equipment and material requirements of plant operations; safety regulations associated with wastewater treatment plant operations; principles of supervision, training and performance evaluation.
Ability to: Supervise and participate in the operation of equipment commonly found in wastewater treatment plants; interpret written or pictorial data and other process information; apply processes control concepts to new or existing treatment processes; develop process control parameters; prepare Standard Operating Procedures for operational and reference purposes; prioritize maintenance of plant machinery; prepare technical operational reports for the treatment plants; perform the calculations involved in the operation of a wastewater treatment plant; read design drawings, plans, and construction specifications; supervise, train and evaluate subordinates; communicate goals and directives clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
Experience and Education: Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience - Sufficient years of increasingly responsible experience in the maintenance and operation of wastewater treatment facilities to demonstrate possession of the above knowledge and abilities, including supervisory experience; Education - High school diploma or equivalent. College level coursework in chemistry, biology, mathematics or a related science is desirable.
License or Certificate: State of California Grade V Wastewater Treatment Certificate; possession of or ability to obtain an appropriate, valid California motor vehicle operator's license.
