This position is responsible for supervising and directing the building administrators in provision of proper administrative and supervisory services at the local state school.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The incumbent must have the ability to perform the essential functions below either with or without reasonable accommodations.
Supervises efforts directed toward compliance with administrative aspects of applicable federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to personnel, physical plant, transportation, fiscal management, etc. Supervises area wide collection of data and production of required reports associated with pupil attendance, budgetary activities, staff needs, etc. Supervises and provides appropriate direction to a designated number of state school building administrators. Communicates effectively in both written and oral forms, using correct grammar, punctuation, clarity and consistency of thought. Supervises recruitment efforts and formulates recommendations of employment and/or termination of personnel. Coordinates the provision of safe and orderly transportation for all students in area schools. Supervises the job performance appraisal of area staff according to established guidelines. Demonstrates effective problem solving and decision making skills. Assures confidentiality of information related to parents, students, and staff is maintained in all area operations. Facilitates effective team working relationships. Makes regular visits to state schools to provide direction and assess quality and effectiveness of administrative/supervisory services provides by the building administrators. Travel (with overnight stays) is required of employee in a state-owned vehicle or one’s own private vehicle. Mileage and other travel expenses will be reimbursed at approved rates. Participates in a minimum of one staff development activity per year to keep administrative skills updated and current. Demonstrates skills in working with parents and in fostering good community relationships in many diverse local areas. Promotes treating of all persons with respect and dignity. Plans, conducts, and participates in meetings. Lifts and moves 50 pounds. Represents the Missouri Schools for the Severely Disabled on special assignments/committees. Maintains effective interpersonal relationships. Completes assignments in a timely fashion, complying with established deadlines. Performs other duties as assigned.
*EDUCATION REQUIRED/PREFERRED:
Master’s degree in school administration or special education. Such degree must be from an accredited college or university. Five years successful experience in a supervisory position in an education setting. Supervisory experience in special education is preferred. Missouri Certification in School Administration or an area of special education.
*The position requires a professional license pursuant to state law.
(Other qualifications and experience which, in the opinion of the Commissioner of Education, meet the requirements of the position may be accepted in lieu of the above.)
