• Promote understanding, trust and credibility between the Department of Corrections and its constituents.
• Serve as a primary point of contact for review of and response to concerns about all aspects of Missouri Department of Corrections incarceration and supervision as expressed by facility residents, residents’ families and loved ones, probationers and parolees, corrections personnel, advocacy organizations, other government agencies, and the general public.
• Respond to constituents’ questions and concerns through mail, e-mail and/or telephone correspondence.
• Serve as a liaison between Central Office and department worksites throughout the state for the purpose of ensuring accurate collection and dissemination of information for constituents.
• Providing training, direction, and guidance to junior constituent services staff.
• Support communications director and legislative liaison in managing inquiries from members of the Missouri General Assembly and staff in the Office of the Governor.
• Maintain electronic records of constituent concerns and inquiries.
Minimum Qualifications:• Three or more years of experience with the Missouri Department of Corrections or a similar agency.
• Thorough understanding of state government operations.
• Customer service or public relations experience.
Preferred Qualifications:• Thorough understanding of Department of Corrections policies and procedures.
• Ability to effectively communicate with constituents who are frustrated, distraught and confrontational.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Mastery of relevant computer applications, including electronic tracking software.
• Ability to work independently and exercise discretion.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to manage high stress-situations.
• Ability to delegate tasks as needed and work with teammates on ensuring effective and consistent responsiveness to inquiries.
All requested documents MUST be received by the closing date listed. Contingent upon your position, you may also be eligible to receive:
- A $2.00 per hour shift differential if you are assigned to a shift that begins on or between 12:00pm (noon) and 5:00am and are employed at a 24/7 congregate care facility (i.e. institution, transition center, supervision center, or command center).
- A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.
- A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.
The Department of Corrections currently offers a guaranteed 1% pay increase for every two years of continuous service up to 20 years!
