    TPWD MISSION

    To manage and conserve the natural and cultural resources of Texas and to provide hunting, fishing and outdoor recreation opportunities for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations.

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    Under the direction of the Food Service Manager, this position performs entry-level food service work at Indian Lodge State Park. Responsible for collecting dishes from tables and washing all front-of-house and back-of-house dishes. Assists in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen, restaurant, and all kitchen equipment. Supports overall sanitation of the facility to ensure a safe and hygienic environment. Performs host/hostess duties by greeting and seating guests. Assists in taking and placing food and beverage orders. Provides support as a cashier and is responsible for accuracy and reporting of revenue collected from guests. May be required to assist in other areas of the park, such as general housekeeping and/or custodial duties. Works under close supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

    Note (1) : This position may include work at Balmorhea State Park or Davis Mountains State Park.

    Note (2) : Position may fluctuate between full-time/part-time hours based on operational needs.


    Qualifications:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Education:

    Completion of 8th grade.

    Experience:

    No experience required.

    Licensure:

    Applicant must possess a valid State driver's license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience:

    Six months of experience as a food service worker in a food service operation, such as a restaurant, cafeteria, camp, or resort/retreat, etc.

    Licensure:

    Current, valid Food Handler Certification issued by the Texas Department of State Health Services.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    Knowledge of basic restaurant operations, including food preparation, inventory of grocery supplies, safe food temperatures and health regulation compliance and serving guests.

    Knowledge of basic mathematics.

    Knowledge of food storage and preservation.

    Knowledge of sanitation regulations.

    Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

    Skill in effective verbal and written communication.

    Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.

    Skill in serving food/beverages to restaurant customers in a timely and orderly manner.

    Skill in the operation, cleaning, and sanitizing of food service appliances and equipment.

    Ability to take food/beverage orders from customers.

    Ability to convey orders to the kitchen and deliver food/beverages to customers, as ordered.

    Ability to use waitstaff Preset Posting Machine.

    Ability to accurately handle cash and account for all revenue collected.

    Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

    Ability to work as a member of a team.

    Ability to prepare and serve food.

    Ability to clean dining, serving, and food preparation areas.

    Ability to maintain accurate records.

    Ability to maintain flexibility and work with frequent interruptions and multiple changing priorities.

    Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 30 lbs.

    Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    Required to work 40 hours per week, including flexible/various-(SP) schedules with hours other than 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and days off other than Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

    Required to adjust to changing schedules and work split-shifts.

    This position will fluctuate between part-time and full-time status throughout the term of employment. Changing from part-time to full-time and vice versa may impact the amount of leave accrued, eligibility for longevity pay, and health insurance rates.

    Required to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 30 lbs.

    May be required to operate a state vehicle.

    Required to travel 5% with possible overnight stays.

    Must conform to TPWD dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.

    Non-smoking environment in State buildings and vehicles.
