    Job Summary

    The Senior Director of Prospect Development provides strategic leadership in prospect research, pipeline, portfolio management, and data analytics to Major Gifts, Annual Giving, Leadership Giving, and other development initiatives. This role plays a critical function in equipping frontline fundraisers with actionable insights, identifying high-value prospects, and supporting campaign strategy through data-informed decision-making.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Lead efforts to identify, analyze, and qualify prospects (individuals, corporations, and foundations). Deliver strategic insights that inform fundraising approaches and ensure alignment with institutional priorities.
    • Oversee the assignment, tracking, and optimization of major and leadership gift officer portfolios. Ensure a healthy and diverse pipeline of prospects across stages and support data-informed forecasting and performance metrics.
    • Provide high level research data for President, VP and Principal Gifts Team portfolios throughout the year. In collaborations with AVP for Planned Giving ensure prospect alignment and further development of our planned giving program.


    Knowledge Skills and Abilities

    The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in biographic and financial research, leveraging both traditional and digital sources to produce insightful profiles and wealth analyses of individuals, corporations, and foundations. They are proficient with a range of research tools including wealth screening platforms, segmentation software, and CRM systems to support data-driven fundraising strategies. With a solid understanding of fundraising practices and donor lifecycle management, they contribute meaningfully to pipeline development and engagement planning. This candidate demonstrates strong leadership, having successfully managed teams, mentored staff, and fostered a culture of strategic thinking and data-informed decision-making. They excel at communicating complex information clearly to both internal and external stakeholders, uphold high standards of data ethics and compliance, and collaborate effectively across departments to align research efforts with institutional goals. Their ability to interpret data and recommend actionable policy improvements further underscores their strategic value.

    Education and Experience

    Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree and three years of demonstrated experience required.

    • Sedentary work - Involves mainly sitting. Walking and standing are minimal. Lifting is limited to lightweight objects. (10 pounds or less).

    Compensation

    Hiring Range: The hiring range for this position is $10,833 - $12,500 per month commensurate with candidate's education, experience, skills, and training.

    CSU MPP Compensation Summary Range: The MPP Comp Summary Range for this position is $9,606 - $14,409 per month.

    Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department’s fiscal resources.

    Additional Information

    The person holding this position is considered a 'mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
