    POSITION OVERVIEW

    Section: Street Maintenance
    Reporting Location: 5500 McCarty
    Workdays & Hours: Monday - Thursday 6:00am - 4:30pm*

    DESCRIPITON OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    The individual will plan, coordinates and directs the activities of groups of workers within the same department. Analyze and resolve staff, equipment and operating problems and recommend changes to increase efficiency. Prepare, coordinate, update and/or refer work orders to the appropriate entity. Sets up and maintains employee attendance records. Prepares periodic performance evaluations; reviews contents with the employee. Trains new employees. Assist with daily operations tasks as needed; drives city vehicle.

    WORKING CONDITIONS
    The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or record boxes (up to 4 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture/wetness and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

    This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier I Level.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
    Basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through the attainment of a high school diploma or a GED.

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
    Four years of progressively responsible experience in the maintenance field are required.

    Substitution:
    A Bachelor's degree in a related field may be substituted for the experience required.

    LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
    A valid Texas driver's license and compliance with the city of Houston's policy on driving (AP 2-2).

    PREFERENCES

    ** Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. **

    GENERAL INFORMATION

    However, the department may administer a skills assessment test.

    Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.

    PAY GRADE 17
