Human Resources Specialist

HOW THIS POSITION SUPPORTS THE DEPARTMENT’S VISION:

This position helps supports the Department’s vision by helping maintain strong relationships between the department’s management and employees and administering agency human resources policies and procedures related to performance evaluation, employee engagement, human relations and workplace continuity.

• Provide consultation and advice to managers, supervisors, and employees on human resources issues including work area concerns, investigations, equal employment opportunity/civil rights, and labor relations issues.

• Investigates complex complaints of alleged discrimination in employment, misconduct.

• Responsible for the enforcement of disciplinary procedures according to policy.

• Elicits assistance in developing effective human relations programs.

• Administers the FMLA program.

• Administers the ADAAA program and coordinates all ergonomic assessments as needed.

• Leads and coordinates all referrals related to the Strive Employee Life and Family Program.

• Coordinates unemployment claim protests and hearings as needed.

• Provide general oversight of Title VII and EEOC compliance within the workplace.

• Conduct in-classroom and virtual training sessions relevant to designated areas.

• Participate in policy development and on project teams within designated areas.

• Bachelor’s degree and one to three years of relevant work experience. (Substitutions may be allowed.)

• Successful candidates must be able to perform each essential function of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state civil rights laws, statutes and regulations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of the principles and techniques of investigation, interviewing and negotiation.

• Comprehensive knowledge of current social, economic and related areas pertaining to the field of human relations.

• Comprehensive knowledge of individual and group behavior, with special emphasis on cultural diversity and attitudes involved in racial or ethnic relations.

• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with complainants, respondents, witnesses, attorneys, minority and women's groups, civic organizations, other employees, and the general public.

• Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and to communicate clearly and effectively.
