Workdays & Hours: MONDAY - FRIDAY 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM *Subject to Change*DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The City of Houston, Human Resources Department, is seeking a dynamic, self-motivated, customer-focused, and technologically savvy assistant. The candidate will play a crucial role in our HR team, assisting with various tasks to support our organizational goals and talent acquisition efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in human resources within a dynamic and supportive environment.
Responsibilities for the Human Resources Assistant, but not limited to the following:- Performs professional work in various areas of human resources such as drug testing and new hire onboarding. This would consist of processing identification of new hires I9/E-Verify.
- Supporting daily human resources functions and performing other duties essential to the efficient operation of the unit as required to meet the needs of our internal and external clients.
- Interprets human resources policies and procedures.
- Conducts research to obtain information and prepare reports, projects, and other pertinent documentation.
- Participates in special projects as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned and requested
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION REOUIREMENTS Requires a bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Social Science, Liberal Arts, or other related field.
EXPERIENCE REOUIREMENTS No experience is required. Pertinent experience at the professional level may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.

PREFERENCES **Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6. ** Preferences will be given to candidates that have a background in HumanResources. Preference also will include candidates with vast experience in using web-based tool scheduling applicants, new hire onboarding and drug testing requirements. Applicants with high customer service skills are preferred.
