    The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position of Aquatic Facility Operator (Promotional Only).

    As part of the Parks team, the Aquatic Facility Operator (Promotional Only) plays a critical role in ensuring Ventura’s recreational spaces are safe, clean, and fully operational. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to the well-being of the community through the delivery of high-quality public services and facility maintenance.

    This position performs maintenance, repair, and inspection of the City’s state-of-the-art multi-use aquatics facility, including its pools, buildings, park structures, and equipment. The Aquatic Facility Operator also serves as a lead worker, providing guidance and oversight to facility maintenance staff.

    Aquatics Facility Operators may work a rotating schedule, including weekends, evenings, and holidays. Incumbent may be required to work sand-by on rotational basis and report to work on a callback basis as needed within a designated time frame. Standby assignment is at the discretion of the Division Head.

    What You'll Do

    As the Aquatic Facility Operator, you will:
    • Oversee and perform skilled maintenance, repair, and inspection of pool systems, buildings, equipment, and park structures.
    • Test and maintain proper pool water chemistry; apply chemicals, and service chlorine systems, boilers, pumps, motors, filters, and controllers to ensure safe and compliant aquatic operations.
    • Maintain and troubleshoot building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, and carpentry
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations for public pool operations and facility conditions.
    • Coordinate and implement a preventative maintenance program; maintain accurate records, reports, manuals, and inventories.
    • Inspect work for quality and compliance; prepare service orders and reports.
    • Assign and schedule work for facility maintenance crews, monitor performance, and provide training and guidance.
    • Review construction plans, specifications, and equipment manuals to support facility repairs and capital improvements.
    • Conduct safety meetings and assist with staff training programs to promote a safe work environment.
    • Support budget preparation, equipment purchasing, and supply management in coordination with the supervisor.

    Experience and Qualifications for Success!

    A combination of education, training and experience equivalent to completion of high school and two years of increasingly responsible pool maintenance or water/wastewater operator experience are required. Some prior experience with general facilities maintenance, including the mechanical repair of boilers, pumps, filters, electrical and control systems, preferably in a large-scale facility, is required. Experience as a lead worker or supervisor is highly desirable

    License: Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California driver license may be required.

    Certificates: The following must be obtained within six months of employment:
    • Aquatic Facility Operator OR Pool Operator.
    • Red Cross Basic First Aid.
    • Red Cross or Heart Association Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation -Professional Rescuer (CPR-PR).
