    What You'll Be Doing

    Are you passionate about making a difference in people’s lives? Come join our Family and Children Medicaid team as an Eligibility Caseworker I. This position is located at our Swinburne office and will work directly with Rex Hospital to determine eligibility for Medicaid programs. This position will interact closely with hospital patients and staff taking applications, processing applications; keying automatic newborn cases; checking applications statuses; working closely with hospital financial counselors; and performing other duties as assigned. The work is fast-paced with tight deadlines. The ideal candidate must work well independently.

    Essential Functions:
    • Entering required data and documentation into NCFAST and other electronic systems to authorize benefits
    • Assessing information provided to determine initial and/or ongoing eligibility for assigned program(s)
    • Responding to client and hospital staff inquiries, phone calls, emails, and requests for information; and providing required notification of information needed and case outcome
    • Conducting interviews as required by program rules
    • Managing queues and workflows in OnBase, NCFast, and other systems as needed
    • Completing daysheets, timesheets, and case action forms

    The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

    • High school degree or GED
    • Two years of related experience
    • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

    Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

    • Experience determining eligibility for a State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC, or Energy Assistance Program)
    • Experience in a Human Services Technician role supporting any Human Services program in a county or state Department of Human Services or Social Services agency
    • Direct clerical or customer service experience providing support to a Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC, or Energy Assistance Program)

    • Interpret and apply Medicaid policies, including updates.
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships; respond to individual needs.
    • Present information clearly in writing and verbally to ensure understanding.
    • Complete tasks with accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Manage time effectively to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently.
    • Apply complex policy rules to determine client budgets accurately.
    • Demonstrate excellent customer service and respect for client diversity.
    • Use required office technology and systems, including Microsoft Office, NC FAST, and Hyland OnBase.

    Market Range: 25.43 - 32.74

    Emergency Service Worker Statement
