    Job Location: Base is in Kansas City, MO. Accepting within Children's Division only.

    The current rate for this position is $44,188.32 - $51,091.20. Individual(s) selected for this position may receive a higher rate based on a pay differential (e.g., shift, or time-of-service pay).

The Department of Social Services - Children’s Division cares for at-risk children and families by providing family preservation and reunification services, investigating allegations of abuse and neglect, and conducting foster care and adoption case management.     What you’ll do:

    • Provides individual services to 8-10 older youth in the home and community setting to assist the young adult with transition to adulthood, meeting a minimum of one time per week face to face with the young person and providing additional support via phone, text, or in person as needed.
    • Is directly responsible for all interventions associated with a specific young adult and their family. This includes case management and collaboration with external key stakeholders and referral sources, such as probation, child welfare workers, therapists, etc.
    • Is on call 24/7 (rotating on-call at night and on weekends) and expected to respond in person at any time when it is determined to be necessary by the Team supervisor, clinical consultant and program director.
    • Is expected to attend and actively participate in individual and team supervision sessions and trainings and to follow up and/or implement feedback and recommendations received from the team supervisor, program director, and clinical consultant. The specialist is expected to adhere to all ethical and legal guidelines, including confidentiality and mandated reporting.
    • Is expected to attend all meetings related to the young adult and/or family with the purpose of gathering information specific to intervention development and advocating in the best interest of the young adult’s long term stability.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Associate Social Services Specialist -

      A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent and Four or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

      OR

      A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably a degree in Social Work or comparable human services field. (Substitutions allowed)

    • Social Services Specialist (II) -

      A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent and Five or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

      OR

      A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably a degree in Social Work or comparable human services field (Substitutions allowed); and,

      One or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

    • Social Services Specialist (III) -

      A High School Diploma or High School Equivalent and Seven or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

      OR

      A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, preferably a degree in Social Work or comparable human services field (Substitutions allowed); and,

      Three or more years of professional experience with a public or private agency in the delivery of protective services, including casework/case management in: investigation of abuse or neglect; coordination of foster care, adoptions, and family centered services; treatment/rehabilitation; and/or providing in-home family crisis intervention services, and possession of a valid vehicle operator’s license.

      (A combination of earned credit hours from an accredited college or university in the preferred fields such as social work, family and child development, special education, psychology, sociology, or related behavioral sciences and experience described may substitute for the stated qualifications. 30 credit hours are equivalent to 1 year of experience. Professional experience as described must be of a substantial period of time (over 50% of time)).

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Ability to work a combination evening/weekend shift
    • Excellent problem-solving and time management skills
    • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
    • Availability to be in the “on call” rotation one weekend a month.
    • Ability to travel throughout the State of Missouri as needed
