    The Position

    Social Services Managers plan, organize, direct and manage the activities, staff and functions necessary to provide social services in an assigned region or district office and its satellites.

    Incumbents function as managers who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinate supervisors; develop policies and procedures; and allocate staff and resources to accomplish goals and objectives.

    The Nevada DIVISION OF CHILD AND FAMILY SERVICES (DCFS) is recruiting for a Social Services Manager 3 for the Child Welfare office in Carson City. Social Services Manager (SSM) 3 exercises direct control over the implementation of child welfare services for their region. SSM 3 must work to develop competent supervisors and frontline staff through case consultation, coaching, mentoring and modeling of the desired best practice. SSM 3 needs to be an expert in the SAFE practice model to ensure decision making is aligned with the model, as well as with policy, statute and regulation. SSM 3 must ensure subordinate staff are well trained and informed/proficient in statute, code, policy and procedures such that quality services are delivered in their respective communities. SSM 3 covers front-line supervisors when they are out of the office and, as such, they may be responsible for reviewing and approving the work product of their subordinates. Decisions made should be based on sound reasoning and good judgement, utilizing the child welfare practice model, policy and procedure in guiding decision making. Typical work elements involve interpretation, assessment and resolution of difficult complex and sensitive problems, and complaints from stakeholders, clients and/or the public which occur within cases. SSM 3 review data and/or carry out quality assurance activities to ensure case consultation between supervisors and staff is in accordance with SAFE practice model, that supervisors are integrating NV Coaching skills into their work with staff and that supervisor decision making is documented sufficiently.     To Qualify:

    In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:
    Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social work, health or social science, public administration or related field and three years of supervisory experience in the implementation of social services programs; directing the operation of a program unit; coordinating program activities with officials and representatives of other agencies; interpretation and application of complex federal regulations; and writing program policies, procedures, or reports; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above. Special Requirements A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Requires a valid driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility at the time of appointment and for continuing employment. The Examination Application Evaluation Exam The exam will consist of an application evaluation. In contrast, the State's lowest point (along the Colorado River) is only 470 feet above sea level. From majestic mountains to desert valleys, nature has endowed Nevada with diverse and unique ecosystems.
