    Requirements

    MOS CODE: 15A (Air Force); 35F, 33-3021 (Army); 0239, 33-3021 (Marine Corps); 001072, 33-3021 (Navy)

    Education and Experience : A Bachelor's degree or higher in criminal justice, business or public administration, social/behavioral science or a related field, and three (3) years experience in data collection, statistical analysis, or logistics or operations research or analysis.

    Licenses and Certificates : None.

    General Purpose

    Under general direction, oversee the preparation and development of analytical data relevant to crime trends, patterns and perpetrators, and for providing crime analysis.

    Typical Duties

    Oversee professional criminal analysis functions such as complex statistical and qualitative analysis for the Police Department. Involves: Study, track and analyze daily crime data from police reports and other internal data sources. Keep up to date on crime activity and related trends, such as gang activity, in the City and surrounding areas. Evaluate and report on major crime activities, patterns and trends at local, regional, state, national and binational levels. Disseminate collected analytical data related to crime series, trends, patterns and suspect information to enhance proactive and reactive law enforcement capabilities. Respond to user requests regarding a variety of police data and information. Produce crime bulletins, crime pattern data, and suspect profile information reports. Provide research, technical and analytical support to Police administration, investigations and patrol operations. Maintain and update activity files for investigative review. Develop, evaluate, monitor, update and maintain computer databases. Prepare maps, and regular and ad hoc reports, assessments and bulletins. Remain current on security issues, legislative developments, and technological developments pertinent to crime analysis functions. Prepare accurate, clear and concise reports. Design, develop, establish and evaluate research techniques, priorities, standards and methodologies for the production of criminal analytical reports. Involves: The development and distribution of various statistical and analytical reports. Initiate action plans to evaluate and improve research processes and the efficient production of accurate and timely reports. Oversee statistical analysis and other specialized software applications and coordinate system enhancements with programmers.

    Represent the department at various meetings and interact with others in the department and representatives of other law enforcement agencies. Involves: Develop, support and maintain liaisons with federal, state, county and local law enforcement professionals to facilitate the exchange of crime and intelligence information, or information regarding changes or advancements within the field of law enforcement, or crime analysis, educational and training opportunities. Exchange information, coordinate efforts or present reports with narrative, statistical data, charts, maps or other graphics to convey detailed research findings and recommendations in summary format.

    Supervise assigned staff. Involves: Assign, schedule, guide and monitor work. Appraise employee performance. Provide for staff training and development. Counsel, motivate and maintain harmony. Identify and resolve staff differences, conflicts and deficiencies. Enforce personnel rules and regulations and work behavior standards firmly and impartially.

    Perform miscellaneous duties as required. Involves: Perform duties of peers or subordinates as necessary to ensure continuity of operations during absences. Advise supervisor in a timely manner of situations or issues that have or could lead to deviation from expected results and recommend appropriate solutions or options. Participate in long or short-term planning, budget development and administration for area of responsibility.
