Definition and Class Characteristics Recreation and Resiliency Internship Program This unique position within the Recreation and Resiliency Internship Program will support efforts to identify and work with community partners, land managers, and independent parks and recreation districts to implement effective strategies “to promote sustainable recreation to enhance recreation access, support public health, safety and quality of life, realize economic opportunities and protect and preserve natural resource assets.” This role will focus primarily on recreational assets in Nevada County’s unincorporated areas, supporting a diverse range of recreational opportunities at a regional, district, community, and neighborhood level for citizens and visitors. Functions of Agency/Department: The Nevada County CDA is dedicated to providing outstanding customer service. It is our overall mission to develop sound and innovative policies, provide strong leadership, and deliver excellent services through the following departments: Administration, Building, Agricultural Commissioner, Code and Cannabis Compliance, Environmental Health, Planning, and Public Works. Intern Duties/Responsibilities: Interns, under supervision of the Advisor, perform a variety of administrative tasks with responsibilities that will include, but are not limited to, the following assignments: Coordinating Adopt-a-Trail contract and workdays with local non-profit partner and County Staff, including volunteer sign-ups and outreach Assisting with the monthly Recreation e-newsletter and coordination of relevant content Assisting with coordination and distribution of quarterly briefings to community partners, park districts, and collaboratives Supporting visitation management strategies and tracking monthly data Monitoring relevant news and trends to keep the Advisor and workgroup apprised of findings Candidates selected for the position would be asked to perform a range of duties from very basic activities to those requiring higher skill levels to enhance operations and community relations. Education and Experience Required Educational Requirements, Skills, Training, or Qualifications: This Internship is best suited for students or regional occupation programs, Career Technical Education, Community College, or graduates. Must be professional in appearance, detail-oriented, reliable, accountable and a self-starter, ready to contribute in a fast-paced, public service environment. Superior communication skills - both written and oral - are required for this role. The County is a Microsoft Windows enterprise environment, with previous experience preferred. Time Commitment: The work assignments are estimated to require 10-20 hours a week. If there is a greater desire to gain additional experience, the advisor will make best efforts to accommodate the candidate’s needs.
