JOB SUMMARY The City of Manhattan Beach is seeking a knowledgeable, creative, detail-oriented, and team-player Technology Systems Engineer to fill a vacancy in the Information Technology (IT) Department. THE POSITION: The Technology Systems Engineer (TSE) functions as one of the City’s technical architects and plays an important role in implementing and maintaining the City’s IT infrastructure. The TSE will be required to do the research and analysis to recommend upgrading, enhancing, and securing the IT infrastructure (i.e., servers, storage, network, backup, cybersecurity, etc.). MINIMUM QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES Education/Training/Experience: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or a closely related field is required. Four (4) years of increasingly responsible technical experience involving the implementation management and maintenance of complex networks, systems, storage, disaster recovery, and cyber operations. Experience with managing the technology infrastructure supporting Tyler applications such as Munis (Finance, HR, Payroll, Utility Billing, Business Licensing, and EAM), EnerGov, and Onbase is desirable. Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA) is desirable. Experience with network systems and protocols such as TCP/IP routers, swiches, VLANS, DHCP, SNMP, OSI model, storate area networks (SANS), and/or virtualization technologies is desirable. EXAM PROCESS Applications will be competitively screened based on the minimum qualifications of this position. Based upon a review of the application materials, the most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in the examination process, which may consist of an oral examination scheduled on Monday, April 24 and Tuesday, April 25, 2023 . The final selection interview is tentatively scheduled for May 3 and/or May 4, 2023. Note: The examination process may be changed as deemed necessary by the Director of Human Resources. SELECTION PROCESS Those candidates that receive a passing score on the examination will be placed on an eligibility list for up to one year, in accordance with the City's Civil Service Rules and Administrative Policies. Any candidate that is selected by the hiring department will be required to successfully complete a pre-employment process, which may consist of a background history check, as well as a medical exam(s) administered by a City-selected physician(s) before hire. Prior to starting work, all newly-hired employees will be fingerprinted to check conviction history. A conviction history will not necessarily disqualify an applicant from appointment; however, failure to disclose conviction history will result in refusal of employment or termination. Positions which are covered by the Department of Transportation regulations are required to submit to a pre-employment drug test and to random drug and alcohol testing.
