Position Description Final Filing Deadline: Friday, June 30, 2023 Exam #: 23/30N80/05JG The Monterey County Agricultural Commissioner's Office acts as the local enforcement agency for specific laws and regulations pertaining to agriculture and business. As County Agricultural Commissioner, the incumbent is charged with the protection of San Benito County agriculture, the protection of the environment as well as protection of the public's health and safety. Education and Experience Requirements at this level consist of a master's degree and four years of professional supervisory, managerial, consultative, or administrative experience in public health, public administration, or in a physical, natural, biological, geological or hydrological science, engineering, environmental science, environmental health, or geography; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of additional qualifying experience for each year of the required education. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies Knowledge of the principles and practices of public health and sanitation; of state and federal laws and rules governing program areas; of agency policies and procedures; of supervisory practices and principles; of program planning, evaluation and administration practices; of biological, radiological and chemical analysis and application of laboratory methodologies; of monitoring and surveillance techniques; of survey and inspection of environmental and sanitary conditions; of epidemiology; and of budget preparation and control. Ability is required to consult on the development, implementation and management of public health programs; to apply research methods; to organize and conduct public hearings; to interpret state and federal laws pertaining to public health programs; to analyze data; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to maintain effective working relationships with others.
