Engineering Technicians perform a broad range of duties involving technical engineering work in support of professional engineers including drafting, engineering calculations, surveying, materials and soils testing, construction inspection, roadway design, right-of-way engineering, planning, permitting and inspection, water rights appropriation and land acquisition in support of civil or related professional engineering work. Work requires the application of technical engineering skills, methods and practices in compiling technical data, drafting, computer aided software, operating specialized equipment and preparing engineering related documents. This position is located in Las Vegas, District I in the Location Division, Crew 017. The candidate for this position will be assigned to a Land Surveying crew that performs a wide range of field and office services such as but not limited to Establishing Aerial Photogrammetry Control, Performing Cadastral Retracement, Establishing Precision Control Networks, Setting Monumentation and Retracement of Right-of-way and other Boundaries. As an Engineering Technician on this crew, you will be responsible for setting up field equipment such as Tripods, Global Positioning Gear, Optical Total Stations, Digital Levels, Lidar Scanners, and other Land Surveying Gear. You will also be expected to learn the operation of these items and support the other crew members in the Surveying Efforts. A good amount of walking, climbing, lifting, and driving are requirements for this position as outlined in the Positions Physical Characteristics. You will also be required to fill out paperwork and forms, keep equipment and trucks maintained and generally be of assistance as needed and directed by a supervisor. This position requires out of town travel most of the time and requires the ability to withstand harsh weather climate both hot and cold.
