Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. The Division of Child and Family Services is recruiting for a Mental Health Counselor I (MHCI) underfilling a Mental Health Counselor II. This position is located in Las Vegas, Nevada at PRTF-Oasis. PRTF-Oasis is a staff secured residential facility comprised of five treatment homes located at the West Neighborhood Family Service Center. Oasis-PRTF is licensed through HCQC and accredited through CARF. This position provides psychotherapy to youth between 6 - 18 years of age and their guardians and serves as the Primary Behavioral Health Provider. The MHCI will be responsible for completing assessments, creating a person-centered treatment plan, completing a Prior Authorization for Services, providing individual, family, and group therapy, attending clinical staffings in the treatment homes, attending Child and Family Team Meetings, and coordinating overall youth clinical needs. They will also provide therapeutic groups in the treatment homes to include Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills-based groups. The Mental Health Counselor will need to be familiar with the behavior modification model used in the home and work collaboratively with treatment home staff to meet youth needs. Treatment is provided in the milieu of Oasis involving a combination of services including therapy, medication management, psychosocial rehabilitation (PSR), and basic skills training (BST). Staff are trained to utilize a Psychosocial Education Model (PEM), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), and CPAR (a model used when restraint is unavoidable). All staff are required to adhere to the models endorsed by DCFS for the Oasis program. Position Summary* Reporting to the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), the Clinical Counselor provides a full-range of individual and group psychological services to students, as well as consultation to faculty and staff who represent a wide range of multicultural backgrounds, presenting complex psychosocial, personal, and family issues. The Incumbent's responsibilities include a significant focus on coordinating services for students who identify as Black, Indigenous, and/or People of Color (PoC). This candidate is expected to work collaboratively within CAPS, with other offices on campus, and with students themselves to develop services designed to best meet the needs of the university's Black student community. As with all CAPS staff, this counselor will also operate as a generalist who provides a full-range of services to the entire student body.
