Learn more HERE . The Position This position is assigned to the Public Health division of the Health and Human Services Agency. An incumbent in this classification will be required to perform direct client services within assigned program area(s) requiring the application of core principles and methods of nutrition and breastfeeding education, counseling, and support. The WIC program provides supplemental nutrition assistance and breastfeeding education for women, infants, and children under five years of age. The WIC Nutrition Assistant I/II position is under the general direction of the WIC Coordinator/Nutrition Supervisor. The principal functions of the position are to perform nutrition assessments, determine WIC eligibility, and to provide nutrition and breastfeeding education to WIC program participants individually and in groups and performing related duties as required. The ideal candidate will be able to provide excellent client centered services and have an interest and passion for supporting the nutrition and breastfeeding needs of women and children. Vacancies may be filled at either the I or II level depending on education and experience. Bilingual Spanish skills are required. Experience and Education: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: WIC Nutrition Assistant I ( $ 28. 64 - $33.89 Hourly) Experience : S ome experience working in a related health or public assistance program assignment. Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. License or Certificate * : Certification as a W IC Nutrition A ssistant from the California Department of Public Health is required within one year of employment. Failure to obtain certification within one year of employment may result in an extension or probation and/or release during the probationary period. Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required. WIC Nutrition Assistant II ( $ 30. 53 - $ 36.12 Hourly) Experience: One (1) year/twenty-six (26) full pay periods of experience as a WIC Nutrition Assistant I in Napa County or equivalent classification in another California Social/Human Services Department. Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. License or Certificate*: Certification as a WIC Nutrition Assistant from the California Department of Public Health is required. Certification as a Lactation Educator is required. Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required. * Any license , certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e., active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position .
