EXAM NUMBER: D4032A TYPE OF RECRUITMENT: Open Competitive (OC) FILING TYPE: Permanent DEFINITION: Functions as a project architect and is responsible for coordinating, preparing and reviewing the study and development of program requirements, schematic, preliminary, and complete working drawings for complex projects. Essential Job Functions Provides architectural guidance and professional expertise to the department as needed, including feasibility reports, field investigations for facilities-related work, facility/site condition assessment, code analysis, construction administration and inspection services, ADA compliance assessments, and narrative scoping programs for construction projects with program requirements and budget/cost estimates. Performs technical review and analysis, including providing written and verbal comments on technical reports, design and construction documents, cost estimates and specifications prepared by other departments, agencies and Architect/Engineering firms for compliance with industry standards, program plan, applicable codes and ordinances, and the Department’s design guidelines and standards. Prepares or coordinates the preparation of complex architectural design work utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD), including developing program requirements, plan layouts, schematic, preliminary plans, complete working drawings, specifications and cost estimates. Processes construction documents through regulatory approvals. Prepares, designs, produces and renders graphic presentations, including realistic 3D models and video animation using design software such as GIS, Sketchup, Lumion, Revit, Photoshop, etc., and 2D presentation graphics using various graphic design software. Manages and updates the Department’s Park Design Guidelines and Standards using graphic software and creates new standards and guides to support the work of the agency. Remains current on public architecture and industry standards. Supervises, coordinates and directs other architectural personnel and other allied professional disciplines in coordinating all work to completion on site and coordinating all work to completion on park development projects. Secures and manages as-needed consultants as required for departmental park projects. Coordinates and manages community engagement sessions, public meetings and/or internal meetings for park projects working closely with department agencies, Board offices, community groups and other stakeholders. Responds orally or in writing to a variety of requests, suggestions, criticisms, and proposals involving design work at County park facilities. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: A California license to practice architecture*, issued by the California Architects Board Required license(s) and/or certificate(s) must be valid, or your application will NOT be accepted. LICENSE: A valid California Class C Driver License** is required to perform job-related essential functions. This class includes administrative and clerical positions requiring light physical effort that may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit and some bending, stooping, or squatting. Considerable ambulation may be involved. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Additional points will be given to qualified applicants who possess the following desirable qualifications: Experience as a registered architect practicing architecture in a responsible position such as Project Architect, Job Captain or Project Manager*** Architectural experience using graphic software such as 2D graphic, 2D computer aided design (CAD) or 3D modeling software. Experience applying codes and regulations such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), California Building Codes, California Green Building Standards Code or California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Architectural experience on Public Works projects**** for a public agency or municipality ***Job titles indicated are defined as positions that have project leadership duties and responsibilities providing design guidance and technical expertise to clients and project teams pertaining to the planning, design and construction of projects with a cost of $1 million or more. ****Project is defined as a new construction or alteration cost of $1 million or more of an existing facility. Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This examination will consist of an Evaluation of Training and Experience based on application information, desirable qualifications, and supplemental questionnaire, weighted 100%.
