Regional Government Services is conducting this recruitment on behalf of the City of Calistoga. Plant Operator incumbents learn to monitor plant operations equipment and processes to maintain permit compliance for both water and wastewater treatment plants. Duties include but are not limited to: operating pumps, valves, chlorinators, telemetry and SCADA controls, sludge processes, collecting samples, performing lab tasks and charting (e.g. pH, Turbidity, Temperature, dissolved oxygen, settleometer tests/sludge thickening adjustments, chlorine residual, etc.), making chemical dosage adjustments and pump rate adjustments, responding to equipment alarms, checking tank and pond levels, preforming routing and preventative maintenance on a variety of equipment, responding to complaints, performing landscaping and maintenance (e.g. grounds spray fields, ponds reservoir, dams, etc.) and communicating well with supervisors and staff, etc. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm daily. Plant Operator II are also required to work standby/on-call up to one week a month, weekend work is required. For more information about this exciting opportunity, click HERE Qualifications for Plant Operator I: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Some experience involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of water pumps and related systems is desirable. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Possession of a Water Treatment Operator Grade I certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board (formerly California Department of Public Health Services). Qualifications for Plant Operator II: Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be: Education and Experience: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade. Two years of increasingly responsible experience involving the routine operation of water and wastewater treatment plants and related equipment snd systems. Licenses and Certifications: Possession of a valid California Driver’s License. Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Possession of a Water Treatment Operator Grade II certification issued by the California State Water Resources Control Board. Supplemental Information BENEFITS Salary range for Plant Operator I: $6,262.60 - $7,611.64 per month Salary range for Plant Operator II: $7,072.71 - $8,596.42 per month The starting salary will be commensurate with the experience, qualifications, and skills of the successful candidate. The City is a part of the CalPERS retirement plan. Classic employee formula is 2% @60. PEPRA employees hired after January 1, 2013, or Classic employee with 6-month break in service are eligible for a 2% @ 62 formula. Member of Social Security. Medical/Dental/Vision plans (Employee pays 10% of premiums). 80 hours Vacation Leave per year, increasing in year 4 to 120 hours. 96 hours Sick Leave per year. 12 paid holidays, 2 floating holidays. Life Insurance provided at 1x annual salary. 2.5% premium pay for T3-Water Treatment Operator or D2-Water Distribution Operator certification.
