EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION I. Successful completion of the Sacramento Police Academy as a City of Sacramento Police Cadet. (l) Successful completion of the Sacramento Police Academy as a City of Sacramento Community Service Officer; and (2) Completion of sixty (60)* semester units, or ninety (90) quarter units, from an accredited college or university. (As part of the Employee Development Program identified in the City Charter). - OR - III. LATERAL ENTRY - (1) High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and completion of sixty (60) semester units, or ninety (90) quarter units from an accredited college or university; and (2) Possession of a valid P.O.S.T. Basic Certificate issued by the State of California; and (3) Current employment as a full- time sworn peace officer in a California P.O.S.T. certified law enforcement department; and two (2) years as a full-time sworn peace officer in a California P.O.S.T certified law enforcement department. *Twenty-six (26) semester college units are earned upon graduation from the Sacramento Police Academy and applied to the sixty (60) semester unit requirement. ABOUT THE POSITION Effective the start of the pay period that includes July 1, 2021, employees received a two percent (2.0%) across the board pay range increase. Lateral Hiring Incentives A $3,000.00 lump sum payment upon the successful completion of the 18-month probationary period with the Downey Police Department. The carry-over of the accumulated sick leave balance at separation from the former agency, up to 360 hours. Vacation accrual rate based on prior years of Lateral Police Officer experience and in accordance with the current Memorandum of Understanding between the Downey Police Officers' Association and the City of Downey. In addition to pay, the City offers competitive benefits including City paid medical insurance coverage up to the Kaiser (HMO Plan) family rate currently at $1,608.46 per month, a tuition reimbursement program that covers up to the Cal State rates, and a "3/12" work schedule. Minimum Qualifications & Position Requirements: Education and Experience: In-State Laterals (Current AZPOST Certification) High school diploma or GED equivalent; completion of Arizona POST Academy; completion of an FTO program and probation period; and currently certified as an AZPOST Peace Officer with two consecutive years as a full-time sworn police officer.
