Essential Job Functions Under established Department of Mental Health protocols, reviews and analyzes patient records in order to evaluate the usage of psychotropic drugs and the quality and appropriateness of the care of mental health patients. Performs psychiatric and physical assessments, including interviewing patients to obtain complete medical histories as well as ordering, interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests and examinations. Establishes and documents the mental health service plan and prognosis, maintains records of each case that are detailed and complete. Under established Department of Mental Health protocols, initiates drug therapy, assumes responsibility for appropriate dosage, indications, contraindications, side effects and other reactions as well as for therapy when performed prior to consultation with a physician.
