Essential Job Functions Verifies the availability of blood, IV solutions, drugs, and patient restrainers for the kind of procedure to be performed in accordance with standard protocol. Maintains security of legally controlled drugs and keeps records of such drugs dispensed. Performs the above duties also for general surgery teams who are performing skin graft, rib removal, and hip bone marrow extraction procedures in tandem with oral surgery teams engaged in mandibular ridge and jaw reconstruction. Completes and signs as the nurse-in-charge the Record of Operation form that identifies the surgical staff and pertinent data concerning supplies used and specimens taken in all surgical operations. Sets up operating room for surgical procedures by setting out appropriate equipment, instruments, packs and supplies. Prepares the patient by washing, shaving, and disinfecting graft areas, and disinfecting intra- and extra- oral operative surfaces. Assists surgical team and an anesthesiologist during surgical procedures by passing instruments. Aspirating operative area to remove blood and mucous; using retractors in the mouth and on external jaw wounds or incisions as directed. Monitoring patients to detect movement indicating shallow level of anesthesia; keeping account of sponges, needles, and irrigating fluid used; loading local anesthesia syringes; and maintaining the sterile field. Requirements MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two years of experience as a Dental Assistant** including one year of experience in a hospital assisting in intraoral surgical procedures involving the use of general anesthesia. Introduction The Hospital San Joaquin General Hospital (SJGH), originally established in 1857, is a general acute care facility providing a full range of inpatient services including General Medical/Surgical Care, High-Risk Obstetrics and Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Intensive Care. In addition to the 196-bed hospital, the medical campus includes multiple facilities dedicated to comprehensive outpatient services including Primary Care and Specialty Clinics. The Hospital's Ambulatory Care sites, including offices located at French Camp and Stockton provide over 1,340,000 outpatient clinic visits a year. In addition to providing direct medical services, the hospital is active in providing education for health professionals through post-graduate residency programs in General Surgery, Internal Medicine and Family Practice and has trained over 3,000 physicians since the residency programs were established in 1932. Interface with Placer County Public Health Department (PCPHD) to obtain immunization and birth control materials for use in the College Health Center facilities; speak on various topics for students in District Residence Hall facilities and for Instructors for instructional skill development; contact representatives of area service organizations for donations of materials and services for District students, as appropriate and feasible; contact area Physicians and Dentists for arrange for reduced fees and other donations of services for District students, as appropriate and feasible.
Arrange for blood drives on District premises with area Blood Banks and direct activities of Administrative Services Technician II- College Health Center regarding use of facilities requests and other documentation and arrangements.
Maintain currency in areas of content and clinical expertise and keep abreast of current trends and issues in Nursing, Medicine, and Nursing Education; adhere to all established program policies in performing all responsibilities; promote departmental cohesion and maintain positive professional relationships with peers, other faculty, staff, students, clinical agency personnel, and the general public; attend and/or participates in a variety of local professional Nursing/Medical and Nursing/Medical Education meetings, conferences, and workshops; participate in departmental, shared governance, and staff development activities, as appropriate and feasible; respond in writing to requests for information (e.g., employment process questionnaires, unit planning guides, environmental impact reports, etc.).

Incumbent is responsible for participating in recruitment and selection of College Health Center staff at multiple campus locations and for orienting, supervising, evaluating classified and student and/or other temporary help, and performing evaluations of full-time and adjunct faculty College Health Center staff members.
