Other responsibilities include: assists in preparing production schedules and technical requirements in the support of new and existing video broadcast and multimedia productions; produces multimedia productions in various formats including video, still image/ photography, animation, audio, and film; handles all aspects of video and audio production including setting up and cabling equipment and operating studio production video cameras, lights, green screens, Tricasters, and other relevant equipment and software; edits productions using Premier Pro, After Effects, Media Encoder, Photoshop, Audition, and other Adobe Creative Cloud software; verifies correct format files and media specifications for all productions in various forms of distribution; handles the conversion and reformatting of production video, multimedia, data, and files to formats necessary for wide-scale viewing and distribution; prepares periodic backups of all media files and supporting documents from personal workstations and stores the backups in a safe environment where they can be retrieved quickly in the event of computer loss, damage, or inaccessibility; monitoring, operating, and troubleshooting multimedia processes for live events, hybrid events, and webinars, including meetings, lectures, symposia, town halls, Commencement, and any other special events for the campus community; mixes live audio and performs post-production audio sweetening; creates graphics for video and event productions in several media formats; performs preventive maintenance and repair for production equipment; evaluate audio/video quality of various multimedia projects, products, and networked streaming media; maintains performance acceptability thresholds and builds upon technology advances and techniques to increase performance, tum-around times, quality, and product/ service features; collaborates with others to prepare scripts, storyboards, and technical requirements for video, multimedia, and broadcast productions utilizing information from content specialists through interviews, research, and discussions; develops functional and technical training materials; documents and tracks projects and client information; learns and develops methods to apply current broadcast and multimedia technology to the solution of editing and conversion by developing and implementing procedures to achieve the specified desired results; develops timely schedules, time frames, and estimates task due dates; participates in the change management process and ITS Help Desk escalations; participates in the ITS disaster recovery in the event of a catastrophic loss of campus systems; participates in the ITS business continuity effort during a catastrophic event; during live productions, coordinates redundancy in equipment, network, broadcast, and power to mitigate risks; maintains a backup of all media productions; works with the management and staff to monitor physical performance of streaming equipment and backups; maintains data access profiles to the video systems as specified by the data owner; maintains data access operator IDs; maintains adequate audit trail of operator ID activity, where necessary; implements new standards, guidelines, and procedures for equipment and computing security set forth by IT Security and Compliance; secures and maintains permission/ release forms for all media productions; works with Public Affairs and University Counsel to maintain image rights, copyrights, and media licensing; ensures that standards and procedures for achieving optimal equipment performance are enforced; recommends product upgrades, replacements, and special project items based on project needs and cost; maintains media request write-ups and charges; provides estimates for labor and materials per project; maintains records of the time spent on each project for chargebacks; reports reoccurring problems and events for repair; maintains the quality assurance review of development plans and completed productions to ensure instructional effectiveness, impact, and quality; maintain onsite equipment, supply, and workstation system updates; seeks training, workshop, and professional development opportunities for continued formal learning; reads journals, magazines, and websites to stay informed; exhibits a personal standard of excellence through an organized work area and actions; consults with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop media plans and priorities; provides information to clients on new emergent technologies and enhancements; provides quality customer service and professionalism to all- University departments on Cal State LA-related media, streaming, and special projects; coordinates activities with ITS and other organizational entities, and educates the campus community about multi-media services and equipment use. Required Qualifications & Experience : B.A. or B.S. in Instructional Communications Technology, TV /Film, Broadcast Engineering/Technology, or other related fields from an accredited four-year college/university. Three years of progressively responsible production experience performing design, analysis, development, implementation, integration, and maintenance of multimedia editing software, such as Adobe Creative Suite (Premier, After Effects, Media Encoder, Audition, Photoshop). Experience using a variety of instructional media equipment such as video and audio recorders/ players, duplicators, computers, projectors, monitors, DVD & CD recorders/players sound systems, microphones, lights, etc. Knowledge and experience utilizing digital broadcast production equipment, such as video production switchers (Tricaster or ATEM mini), virtual video control platforms (Open Broadcasting Software), professional ENG & studio video cameras, Teleprompters, microphones, studio lights, dimmers, and digital recorders. Thorough knowledge of production techniques and equipment. General knowledge of production principles and practices for instructional media. Knowledge of tools for authoring interactive multimedia products delivered via a variety of synchronous and asynchronous techniques. Knowledge of safety requirements including how to handle hazardous chemicals and materials. Knowledge of project management processes, tools, and techniques. Knowledge of copyright and public image laws and regulations. Detailed understanding of disaster recovery planning and execution. Advanced computer skills to operate digital production-related editing and duplication equipment. Good verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with a broad variety of constituents on event planning and training. Understanding tasks required of specific projects and the ability to create, implement, and prioritize a project plan. Ability to: develop, create, stage, and/ or produce professional quality visuals and evaluate production effectiveness in meeting objectives; understand operating procedures and underlying technology in order to use and troubleshoot equipment and systems; use and maintain studio, camera, and related equipment; produce and broadcast live productions; use Office 365 (Outlook email, Excel, Word, Power Point, OneDrive, Microsoft Teams); perform simultaneous tasks without degradation in work integrity; and take initiative. Solid photographic capabilities, as well as photographic processing and manipulation skills. Familiarity with Live captioning and video captioning in both English and Spanish. Ability to work with and train students involved in production projects. Experience working in an educational environment.
