CLASS SUMMARY LOOKING FOR A SUMMER JOB? Therapeutic Recreation Services is looking for energetic and enthusiastic individuals who love working with children and adults with disabilities! The Day Camp Activity Leader assists in the preparation and operation of Funshine Day Camp in providing supervision of recreational activities for children/adults with developmental and/or physical disabilities at Shadle Park and various field trip locations. Dates: Training: June 15 - 25 (Times/Days TBD). Required training includes one week (16 hours) as determined by the Director. During camp: June 28 - August 13 (with July 5-9 off). The Activity Leader will work, over 6 weeks, 6 hours per day (subject to change depending on program needs). Monday - Friday hours are variable according to the position. Additional hours may be available for leading other TRS programs and events. EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS Provide supervision for the health and safety of campers. Know where the campers are at all times, especially when away from shelter. Assist with daily activity planning, implementation, special events, and opening & closing of each day. Provide ongoing communication with camp Director, bus drivers and guardians/parents in a timely and professional manner. Assist with camper's personal needs as required: toileting, transfers, dressing, etc. Assist with lunch hour - feeding, serving, & prep. Assist with set-up & clean-up each day of camp to keep storage room in orderly fashion. Implement and maintain consistent behavior management strategies as established by director and assistant director. Provide input/feedback at weekly staff meeting. Record any unusual incidents, seizures, illnesses, abrasions, behaviors following established protocol. Remain in the park with camper group at all times (except 1/2 hour lunch) unless given permission by Director. Responsible for camper involvement - encourage camper participation and be a role model to fellow employees. Plan and facilitate craft/game/ activities as assigned by camp Director. Flexibility to adapt games and activities for all participants. Assume any other duties as delegated by Director. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must be 18 years of age or older. High school diploma or equivalent. College/University experience preferred. CPR/First Aid/Food Handlers permit required upon hiring. Valid driver's license is preferred. Skills in: Demonstrated interpersonal skills. Demonstrated proficiency in basic communication skills. Leadership experience amongst peers preferred. Ability to: Demonstrated experience and ability in working with children in a youth program. Experience working with children/adults with disabilities preferred. Lift, feed and assist campers with personal care needs (with our without reasonable accommodation).
