CLASS SUMMARY The City of Spokane invites applicants to apply for the position of Temp Seasonal - Plumber NATURE OF WORK: Performs journey-level skilled work in plumbing installation, maintenance and repair. Duties require the application of some independent judgment. Most work is subject to checks and controls; errors could cause a significant loss of time or materials, damage to equipment, and injury to workers and citizenry. Employee has routine contact with other employees and some outside contact. Work is heavy in nature, requires long periods of standing, walking, or climbing, and is conducted under adverse weather conditions with potential exposure to hazardous materials. The employee exercises a normal degree of concentration to prevent errors. SUPERVISION: Employee may work as part of a crew, independently, or as lead worker on a specific project. Assignments are general in nature, and work is inspected both in progress and upon completion. EXAMPLES OF JOB FUNCTIONS The following Responsibilities and Requirements are functions the individual who holds or desires the position must be able to perform unaided or with the assistance of a reasonable accommodation. PRIMARY DUTIES: Assembles pipe sections, tubing or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, or soldering, brazing, or welding equipment. Installs pipe sections, fitting, valves, appliances or fixtures such as sinks, urinals, and toilets using hand or power tools. Follows specifications and plumbing codes. SECONDARY DUTIES: Inspects, repairs, or replaces pumps, valves and boiler systems, including swimming pool pumps. Replaces defective equipment, mends broken pipes, and opens clogged drains. REQUIREMENTS OF WORK: Considerable knowledge of the tools, methods and materials of the plumbing trade. Knowledge of tools and material employed in other trades. Knowledge of the occupational hazards of plumbing work and necessary safety precautions. Knowledge of local, state, and national building codes. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions, plans, sketches or blueprints. Ability to carry out work assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled tasks in the building trades. Skill in the use and care of hand and power tools, and of equipment used in the plumbing trade. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Ability to read fine print, instructions, safety signs, tapes, and dials on gauges. Ability to speak in an understandable voice loudly enough to be heard over machinery noise. Ability to communicate in person and over the telephone and radio. Ability to operate hand and power tools. Ability to identify fumes. Ability to move and position self to work in cramped locations and at difficult angles. Ability to stand for up to four hours at a time with only one 15-minute break. Ability to lift pipes, fixtures and other plumbing materials weighing up to 80 pounds. Ability to work in awkward, confined spaces, indoors and outdoors and with loud noises, fumes, dampness, dust, adverse weather conditions and heights. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: Open Entry Requirements: Possession of a journey-level plumber's license (PL01) as issued by the State of Washington. Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. Ability to pass basic physical and 80 lb. lift test. Candidates must upload their current plumber's license.
